We never think about leaving our poles in the van during hot weather, this is what's happened to me.
The top section was starting to spin and the clamp was as tight as I can now get it. I took out the top section and cleaned it, then I placed one layer of tape to replace the worn original tape. I have been using the pole like this for months.
I came to open the pole the other day and the top section won't move. All I can think of is that by leaving the pole in the car during the recent hot spell, the glue on the adhesive tape has melted and stuck the two sections together inside.
My next plan is to get the hot air gun on it to see if I can pull the section out, failing that plenty of WD40 to disolve the tape adhesive. I am talking about bog standard electrical tape.
Anyone else had this problem, and how did you seperate the sections?

OK managed to seperate the sections, didn't bother with the heat gun, just blocked one end and filled the tubes with boiling soapy water. My first guess about the tape adhesive seems to be spot on.
I suppose that either clamping a bit higher up or cutting 4 inches off the worn section should help stop the spinning.

im sure Alex did a video on how to apply a bit of resin on worn sections.

a new number 1 section is only £48 i think im just guna replace mine when it gets bad its close to needing replacing now

Mine never completely jammed to the point where I couldn't pull the sections apart but i did have a problem with the tape coming unstuck and jamming the pole. That was also the 3M tape I bought from Gardiners.
However, I have found it seems to cure if after you've applied it you don't use it straight away. I can see though, how leaving it in a hot car might melt the adhesive.

Shouldn't this be a warning to not put sticky gunk on your poles sections rather than an slx 18 warning?

Your right, but that pole is just about the most used pole in the UK. I have no beef with that pole and would buy another tomorrow.
It was a general warning about leaving kit in a hot vehicle, something most of us would never give a thought to.

I actually had a similar problem today with the stop tape at the bottom, the pole was jamming when I tried to close it. Don't usually keep the pole in the cab but have to since I've removed the canopy from the pickup.

I find there are different types of tape. I have only used the matt black tape its not as stretchy and the tape sticks better and never goes goo-ie. I leave the tape on the van dash and see the results. This tape is on a larger roll and costs more if this helps. And have only seen it in black,
