Title: Leaking 4040 housing
Post by: Slash on May 07, 2017, 05:24:08 pm
This morning when I turned on my static 4040 pumped system there was a leak from the housing where the black piece meets the white tube piece, what i mean is the 4040 housing has two black ends about 4 inches on either end and one end was leaking water ,not on the hose fittings but actually  the seam  where the black piece meets the white tube, has anybody ever had this before, the housing isn't cracked or anything  but a bit confused.  ???

have you checked the rubber o ring seal? on the black end cap that screws into the white housing.

Yes it's actually leaking where the black piece meets the white long tube piece, there seems to be rubber that joins them together but I don't think there is a thread and tried to unscrew the black part from the white houseing if you know what I mean, took the membrane out but the rubber O ring is fine and is set about 4-5 mm away from where it joins internally.

Not 100% sure what you mean, but the black end cap  should unscrew ( i think or pull off) but there will be like a locking piece of plastic that needs taking off to unscrew it. the link to this picture http://www.cplfiltration.com/admin/assets/uploads/files/8ab83-rvcrohousing.jpg  is the same type as mine you need to take the yellow plastic locking bit of then take the white bit out, then the end cap will come off. All i can think of is the o ring on the end cap is faulty or the rubber seal on the membrane itself is letting water out but i would have thought its the o ring that could be the problem.

I know what you mean, took the membrane out etc.  but it's the actual houseing that'seaking where the white tube meets the 4 inch black end.

I would imagine the only solution is to replace it with another Champ housing.

Someone who does plastic welding, ie plastic bumper repairers may be able to weld the leak up, I don't know. Please keep us updated.

How old is the champ housing?

Do you use a booster pump?

Have you recently changed the membrane?

Is it stored in a shed where it's cold in the winter? If it's one these it may have had heavy freeze and cracked

if it's fairly new call your supplier as mine is over 12 years old now so they do last

It's about 3 years old and has a booster pump,it's the static system from Pure Freedom,it's stored in the utility closet indoors so doesn't freeze, however i brought it to Grimsby  to be serviced by Pure freedom  about a month ago while they were fitting a tank for me and said the membrane is fine so just changed the 20 inch pre filters.
I think my Mrs must have knocked the iron board against it or something but did change it over to a stainless steel housing I had lying in the shed so all is good now, thanks for your help .
SHE IS NOW BANNED FROM THE CLOSET ;D
