Title: Funny Inquiry !
Post by: Don Simon on April 25, 2017, 09:11:05 pm
I live at MODDED - please do not type full addresses of anyone on the internet without their permission Marten Drive, Netherton (just up Bank Foot Lane Armitage Bridge)

I live in a semi-detached bungalow with conservatory.

I recently had a free window clean on promotion by a large well established firm. I had never experience the 'own water, pole system' before but was very impressed it was quick and efficient.

However their pricing for cleaning my windows was rather over the top- my 'old fashioned' window cleaner charged me £5 a month-but he has retired. The 'trial company' was asking for £13- even changing to 2 monthly made it quite expensive.

If you 'do' our area, could you possibly give me an estimate please.

Guide.
Front-large bay window-kitchen window
Side-door window, bathroom window
Back- bedroom window, conservatory

many thanks
D. MODDED

It's the bell end who was doing it for a fiver that's to  blame.

Rife with them in this area .

Dear "D",

Having looked on Google Maps at your property I would quote £15.00.

Best wishes,

I quoted a bungalow in Milngavie, property value 400-500k nothing special. Quoted around £20 and had previously quoted her friend up the road at around £18 which she was happy with.
Received a text saying something like her last windy was only a fiver then received another text late at night which was a drunken ramble to her friend (sent to wrong number) about people come into Milngavie and think they can just charge what they want....

Never replied but felt like saying her last windy must have been when she had a council house ya MODDED skank.

Ditched her pal as well as I don't want rift raft on my run!

I quoted one £18 and she said I was too expensive, her trad cleaner had been doing it for £8 but fell off a ladder and won't be back for a long time if at all. No way would I even think about doing it for less than £15 at least, not bleeding worth it at stupid prices

I have a set price in my head for every new job, I may come down a pound or two if  need be when negotiating a price for a new customer. Never bother asking a customer how much the previous cleaner charged because if the customer isn't happy with your price she or he will let you know either yes or no anyway so from  your percentage of uptakes you'll figure out the going rate in an area anyway. If some one wants to kill themselves charging stupid low prices to get the work that's up to them. The idea is,  the busier you get with time, the more sensible prices with least hassle work and more reliable customers they become. Main objective is to earn more with better customers in return for a reliable, regular, trust worthy cleaner in exchange  whilst weeding out the poor customers, and terrible parking and access issues  :)

It could be that her friend never got a copy of the text that came to you so knows nothing about it. We live in a small village and everyone knows what everyone else pays for window cleaning. I often ask them if they have got nothing better to talk about than me. If not then they must be scrapping the bottom of the conversation barrel.

I had one complain to me that I was charging her daughter £2 more than a friend of hers with a totally different house. My reply was to thank her for drawing that to my attention as I had forgotten that that job needs to be increased in price. I love watching how they react when they realise that they will be responsible for their friend paying more rather than getting a price reduction.  We lost the job later anyway when they moved.

I like the bit in the op about having a free window clean by a large well established firm and liking the method. Then goes on to say the last guy only charged a fiver.  That just goes to show free window cleans don't pay as if they charged him a fiver instead everyone would have been happy. lol

You have to ask yourself what kind of people are going to take the offer of a free window clean o begin with . . . . . .in my experience penny pinching scrooges who will drop you, the minute another cheaper  comes along.             Very short sighted business model and will not develp decent round.

If you're going to pick him up on his grammar, at least make sure you've rectified all of the mistakes in the post before trying to belittle.

Just saying like  ;)
