I recently received my van insurance stuff through the post and the certificate had a small crease in one corner.
It's not good enough.
When I got my membership certificate for being a member of the Dennis the Menace Fan Club, that didn't have a crease in one corner.
Not only that, I didn't get sent a free ball point pen.
I would have phoned up Alexander Swan first to have a moan but I prefer to air my grievance on here first.

Can't you insure yourself against 'second-hand condition' insurance certificates?
-
Have you thought about taking it up with the " damaged certificates ombudsman " ?

Getting the DCO involved at this stage is churlish. At least give A.S an opportunity iron out any problems.

I also have had a genuine experience with Alexander Swan which has upset me greatly. This is true by the way!
In March I broke my rear van door window by letting it blow into a tree.
So it was covered under windscreen cover (more accurately glass cover) and as expected I paid the excess with no NCB issue.
However the glass replacement was done on my drive by National Windscreens but what I thought was tinted privacy glass was in fact a film put on by the dealer when I bought it new. So when the glass arrived it was almost clear which meant one door window looked black while the replacement was clear and the contents of the van could be easily seen.
I rang the Hyundai dealer who told me who they used for tints and for £40 I had a matching tint fitted.
So, am I covered for the £40? Is it original spec or not? I emailed Alexander Swan and was told - after they quickly checked with the insurer I would be covered if I sent a scanned copy of the paid receipt which I did.
It took them 5 working days to turn it around and a cheque landed on my desk yesterday.
THE REASON I AM UPSET (EXCUSE ME SHOUTING) IS THAT EVERYTHING WENT PERFECTLY SMOOTHLY! I HAD NO OPPORTUNITY TO GET SARCASTIC, WRITE A LONG "CLEVER" LETTER, HAVE A FLOUNCE OR GO TO ANY OMBUDSMAN!
In short I have been able to get on with my work with minimum fuss and disruption.
Bad show Alexander Swan.

Oooh! Oooh! I'm so happy! I have found a reason to commend Alexander Swan yet again!
They've made an error in their spelling and grammar check in Forum Admin's posted letter! Look!
"We have responded directly but I felt the need to address this on the open forum seeing [as] that was the form of commination you chose to air your views. "
See that bit in red I have highlighted! Well Sarah Richards from A.S. wrote it and so look up what that word means! She obviously meant to write communication but this is even better!
Sarah, I don't know you and have never met you but I am in love! A fantastic word substitution in error which is better than the original. And I've learned a new word!
(((HEART))) Alexander Swan

I'm glad AJ's post was removed. It's not right that someone can post some frankly ridiculous acusations that someone is a criminal over doing nothing but working within the law and regulations set out.
