I agree. Haven't got time to chat to other cleaners. A quick nod of acknowledgement or hand up to say hello mate & that's me done. I'm not interested in them or what they've got in their van personally.

Ohhhh yes i remember now.  Where the customer was trying to call the police on me? Haha, all because of a mixup on a worksheet due to the last person living there actually being a customer of mine.

Trying to think who you are though!  Can't for the life of me think, are you P&G window cleaning?  The chap that works with his wife too.  I know about 4 different pauls locally who are window cleaners.

i do that occasionally but im not offended if another window cleaner just wants to crack on.sometimes its me who doesnt stop and chat as i just want to get my work cleaned and get  off home (for whatever reason).

some window cleaners near me seem to always want to stop and chat! ::)roll ;D

I normally give a head nod or a hiya bud and thats about it really.
Ive had one or 2 dodgy looking cleaners stop for a chat commenting on van and eauipment. I then spend rest of day watching van incase it suddenly vanishes or inevitably start talking prices of the houses were cleaning and i give nothing away then. So ild rather not stop and talk as theres not alot to gain from it other than being polite. But work is work not socializing

Other window cleaners, lol.

I put on my meanest, most intimidating face.

If they look at me, I make as if I'm about to go for them, sometimes limber my fists up a bit while looking at them with wide, slightly crazed eyes.

That kills any prospect of time-wasting conversation dead.  Job done.

I always stop for a quick chat. Nothing for long just a couple of minutes. I have a fellow window cleaner etiquette guide.

1 Never talk about prices
2 Never slag off other window cleaners
3 It's OK to have a moan about the weather. (Too hot/wet/cold/windy)
4 Never just go ahead and nose in the van. Ask first.

Sometimes I'll just give them a toot and a wave or thumb  up.

Sometimes I'll have a bit of banter and say some thing like "where did you get those squeegees from....the toilet....store?" in a friendly anchorman confrontational style.

And if I'm really confident I might hide his bucket, or stand on his hose...

Pns windowcleaning. Your right yes mate! We first spoke years ago when you were collecting next door to where i was trad'ing
And i gave you some pointers on sqeegee method, across the road from said incident.
Freaked me out that did, i thought some fraud was watching me work and going to collect my takings.
Until i got to the bottom of it, my brain was scrambled. You would of thought your man having worked for you for some time would of realised he had never cleaned there?
Glad we worked it out though mate, i would of turned into inspector morse trying to work that one out.
Good job your professional josh, may not of believed some of the window cleaners round here.

You know who you are  :)

If they're working, I park on their hose with my tyre if it's across the road, or stand on it and see if they notice, then give them a nodd and ask how they're doing, just manners, don't cost nothing and sometimes get some useful info from their or pass on some work plan on losing or can't be bothered with. Always pass on guttering work or painting jobs to those that want it.

It's similar here in Ireland. I am a cheery sort when working, so am usually smiling. I've tried saying 'hi' to other window cleaners in my locality. Not one of them ever responds!
