Title: How to sack off a job?
Post by: Shrek on April 05, 2017, 01:24:47 pm
Ok iv got 2 custards that are next door to each other. Over time iv just got sick of doing them, 2 cars on the drive parked right up to the windows, pita hose getting twisted around the tyres , not much room to manoeuvre. The next door neighbour parks on the gravel which has over time turned to sloppy mud 😢 So the hose gets covered every time I go , also have 2 cars on the drive. It's got to the point where I dread going now.
How do I sack them off nicely?
Cheers

Best way ive found is to tell them. Ive told some customers that i cannot continue to clean windows due to the amount of dog mess in garden. We arranged that i would text night before for them to shift it and if not it wont get done. Do similar or put price up and let them cancel you instead.

On another note, many years ago. I cleaned 2 houses, fathers and sons. The dad pays for them both. The sons house was leaded and a pain to do, this is when i was trad cleaning. I told dad that i couldnt co tinue for the price and it needed to be greatly increased. He asked why? I told him it was due to the lead (it was all fancy in a pattern and took forever to clean traditionally.) He said leave it with him. 2 months later he had new windows put in and no lead!!  Now im sure it wasnt directly related but well timed all the same.

I think at times we underestimate how much influence we have.

I actually txt them to say I was going , and when I got there , I thought forget it. Even if I bang the price up it's still be a pita

Depends how much you put it up. You'd be amazed how it changes your attitude to a job if it's priced right, you've probably got others that are a pita but because you priced it accordingly, you don't even think about it.

Just don't turn up ever again, simple.
How many customers have you picked up over the years because the last window cleaner stopped coming?

I sack off customers all the time. If they don't meet my criteria of 'good' customer i don't bother going back.
Some will say it's unprofessional, i say screw them.
At the end of the day it's your business so run it how you want.

This time of year is great for picking up new work, which means it's great for ditching the crap.

At the end of the day you got to go with what works.

If it's no longer profitable, sell it or ditch it. I would sell it, never just ditch it.

You could just say that you are cutting back a little because of other commitments and perhaps offer to do them on an ad hoc basis.
