Title: pricing builders clean
Post by: Cinders on June 03, 2006, 08:15:30 pm
Hi Guys,

Before any suggestions, I have tried my best to search the site for what im looking for but to no avail!.....

Im a newbie and got a call this afternoon from a letting agency (got my details from  yell.com) and they needed a new property cleaned...well yesterday! so as it was my local area i said i could be there within the hour!

I turned up and its a brand new, never lived in 2 bedroom two storey property which i cleaned all the woodwork, vacuumed, cleaned internal windows, main bathroom and downstairs toilet, kitchen  - tiles fridge freezer etc...and mopped the floors, scrapped unexplainable stuff off the windows and inhaled small fibres of wood, dust and plaster from the woodwork!

It took me 5 hours (could have been less but the girl moving in (much to my shock and horror) was and old 'friend' from school (didnt leave school on the best of terms but hey im all grown up now!)....anyway took me 5 hours and i dont know if this would be considered a builders clean?

I told the letting agency it would be from £60...he didnt give me a very good description of the property (but hey im new at this is and desperate for the cash!) AND its a saturday AND I was there within 30 minutes of being asked!

What should i charge?  Im going up to the letting agency on Monday with my invoice and I want to charge a fair wack but not as much for him to laugh in my face and have me physically removed from the property!

Any suggestions??

Ta :)

I would charge somewhere in the region of 100 -120 quid, don't forget you have to factor in the price of chemicals, equipment, telephone, vehicles, insurance, advertising etc.

I would expect that my price is on the low side,  some will say 200+, but if there is a chance of more work keep it resonable and it could be a good contact especially as you got there so quickly. Like Lisa123456's post you have also saved them a lot of agro and made the premises rentable again, without you he would possibly have lost a client.

Thanks for the reply Gary J much appreciated
:) I think £120 is reasonable enough...will cover my costs and as you say its not extortionate and will hopefully keep me on their books for the future!
