There was an show on this explaining how he actually survived, it showed scientifically how the luck he had saved his life.  For example the angle the platform he was on fell into the narrow alley at the right angle to slow it down etc.

I might as well start going up ladders up to 3/4 storeys then!

He survived 47 floors, so coming down from 30-40ft...meh
