your right mate cold pure water works just fine esp when i mainly clean regular jobs every 4/6/8 weeks etc. :)

and for dirty jobs and add ons and can always take more time and use virosol.

TBH i feel a lot better now that i havent got that ruddy gas bottle in the back of my new van! ;D

i was spending around £500-£600 a year on gas too!thats £2,500-£3,000 over 5 years!! :o :o

I mean, it wasn't long ago you were singing and dancing about how amazing hot was so I'm not sure there's much legitimacy in the whole 'I'm now going to save thousands and I'm so happy' or how credible it is

Glad you're ok and nothing serious happened though...balls to the new van, you could have been a bit too close to a potential serious accident

Thing is ....... if the van had gone up and the insurance company refused to cover it you'd have been up the creek without a paddle so to speak, still paying the instalments I guess and buying another van  :o

If you want safe hot water which doesn't cost a lot, do what I have done with the kind advice from Dave Willis.
Fit a 3KW immersion element, with a 16 amp socket on your wall. Get a certified electrician to connect it direct to your fuse box with a timer.
I managed to fit a 27inch element inside my 500ltr upright tank. I run it for 5hours on the timer. Doesn't cost a lot and safe.

L5's are the worst heaters to get. Have a look underneath to see if the plastic battery box had melted. lol

There you go as has been said numerous times these things are not safe to be operated in a vehicle they are out door shower units  if you have to go down this route at least get it fitted by a gas safe engineer and have it checked regularly

It's honestly only a matter of time till one of these heaters blows up in a van or someone gases themselves and it's all over the news.

No scaremainering here, it's just the amount of people that are setting them up it's bound to happen.

I see guys on Facebook just starting up window cleaning up and not really sure how anything works but they are getting step by step advise on how to set these heaters up.  ???

Just in this forum alone there is atleast 4 of us who have a had scares with them. Could of easily been 4 "convertible" vans.

Jonny, I know myself and Daz have, who else?

The dream team,  ;D

Me, ( gas ignited from a small leak )
Slacky ( bang pop wallop  )
Daz ( bang  pop wallop )
Dave Willis ( faulty regulator leaking gas and filling the van )

That's just ones who have posted about it, who knows how many there are really?

I suppose if you've got a leak from a gas powered BBQ you never actually know about it. The gas more than likely dissipates. In a van a leak will go bang.

These systems would be similar to gas caravan heaters so what you will have is an enclosed flame with an oxygen intake
and a flue to remove the burnt gas.
What happens is the oxygen intake will get blocked therefore the gas cant ignite and will build up in the chamber until it reaches
the oxygen in the flue and you get the bang/ flame out through the flue.
With caravans the flue will be piped off so you wont get the flame hitting you in the face or setting the rest of the van on fire
that's another reason why these heaters should have the flue piped off.

Would also be interesting to find out the following:
1. actual brand/model used
2. how exactly the heater & gas was installed
3. any diy modds was done to the heater to override the 20min cut out or any other built in safety features.
4. the age of the heater.
5. how often was it checked.
