Title: Chatters? How many and whats your escape plan?
Post by: Klean07 on January 26, 2017, 08:30:42 am
I have certain customers that love a good old natter when I arrive which is fine as long as its limited to the time I'm usually doing the work for. But when they continue to chat when all you want to do is drive to next job it can be frustrating! If I'm there for longer than 15 minutes then I activate alarm on my phone and pretend I have a call then walk back to my van!

Used to have a very talkative neighbor years ago and my wife used to employ that method to end a convo. You don't want to be rude but you can lose money fast when you get caught like this.
I try always to be polite and at the same time not say anything that will trigger an in depth conversation. There's always that point of no return when you realise that things have gone beyond just the polite talk.

My chats usually end up with me plugging an add on service that I also offer, either way it will cut it short or end up with me
getting some extra work.

I just say sorry but I've got to get going, I'm running late for my next job, they will be wondering if I'm going to turn up.

I normally try to stop them dead in their tracks by boring the socks off em first so they just cannot wait to close the door.

I just don't respond when engaged in conversation. I will literally blank them, do a massive fart, burp then walk off.

Why put it on silent? Its not ringing whatever happens.

Put some fart sounds on repeat on loudspeaker on your phone. Know one will want to talk to you.

Most of my O.A.P. custards stand at the door carpet bombing the front-door mat with watery faeces while I chat away merrily to offer them the hand of company and intelligent chit chat.

If they want to chat then my mantra has always been "time is money". I will chat you into extra add on services that will cost you more money. If they are female fit and want to chat, then I'll see where that goes.  If they are male, have no interest in spending more money on window cleaning add on's and have nothing interesting to say  then I usually just ignore them.

Prefer employee's not to engage in to much conversation for obvious reasons those that employ will know what I mean  :o  ;D  ;D

Because you'll look even more of a neep if you're pretending to speak on the phone and it starts ringing...

I have a couple though that won't let you get a word in whilst they're telling you about uncle Albert and Auntie Vera  and what their neighbours are up to etc! I just keep taking a step backwards until I'm almost in my van then pull phone out!
