Title: Other Services
Post by: Andy Hogarth on May 31, 2006, 05:03:11 pm
Does anyone offer more than just carpet and upholstery cleaning. Just wondering what else is good to add to your business as I guess the more diversified you are and the more services you offer the more work you'll get.

I was thinking of doing courses in rugs, curtains, stains etc and eventually move in to such as flood and smoke damage  but all these will take more time and experience......and cash  ;D so for the time been, at first set up I was thinking of adding window cleaning, car valeting, things like that, maybe even a few cleaning contracts.

I'd like to hear your views on this, wether you think offering services outside of c/c is good or bad in your opinion.

Cheers
Andy

To be honest andy i started out the same offering all kinds of add on business, but will find your time gets heavily divided, i've spent the last couple of years stripping out all the other services and getting back to just specializing in carpet & upholstery cleaning, ::)

If you do it well you will probably need all your time for that!  - And i've found it's much better to do one thing well than be a jack of all trades and end up spreading yourself to thinly.

Just my humble opinion, - there's plenty of work in cc alone if you do it properly ;)

steve

We also clean hard floors, wood, vinyl and stone this is also good because you will often come accross commercila customers eho require both. we charge upward off £150.00 to strip and polish a floor about the size off an average living room.

Andy

Personally I think you are best off concentrating on carpet & upholstery cleaning to start with. If you do this right you can earn good money in a resonably short time. The work will be slow to start and you will be tempted to try other things to earn money which isn't a bad thing as long as it doesn't eat into the time you need to spend developing your core business.
You should be aiming to make a business and reap the rewards this brings. Too many are simply earning a wage.
PS I am finalising the dates for the "Introduction to Carpet Cleaning" course I will be running in July if you are still interested.

I agree with John and Steve

Ive had torn myself apart being involved in various enterprises and other projects

They take you away from developing your core business.

If you find the need to diversify keep it cleaning related.
