Title: Should i heat this too?
Post by: jo5hm4n on January 05, 2017, 05:52:03 pm
So last night i put the radiator in the van with duvets to cover hose reels, started at 10am today as it was -1, and did okay, managed to do a full days work!

Had a thought today though.  My RO is a 450GPD mounted onto my 1000L IBC located in my garage, do i need to worry about the RO freezing and being damaged?  Never thought about this before until today.  Wondering if maybe i need to get another radiator, one for the van and one for the garage to protect the RO incase it freezes overnight.

Yes, if your RO freezes it's going to cost you a few hundred in lost work and replacement. Cover it up or build a box for it if you have a cold garage.

If it's an integral garage I wouldn't worry, as it'll stay warm enough in there anyway.

Buy a room thermometer, only a couple of quid , you'll soon know whether you need to take further precautions.

I've got a 120 watt tube heater under my ro, costs pennies to run. Never had a problem. Only use  it when minus temps are forecast.
