-

It's not much of a resolution then is it? It's like me saying I'm going to stop killing Russians for my new years resolution.
At least choose something semi-challenging!!!
-
As the saying goes "never again" until next time ;D
-
no resolutions to make as i dont need any motivation to improve/evolve myself.its happening naturally every day of the year not just because its a "new year". ;D
happy new year guys life is good. 8)
me,tosh and matt are probably the only ones on here who havent got a hangover to start the new year! :)

I was at a New Years Day Parkrun at 8.30 am this morning; there were 150 other runners there, which I found quite surprising; I expected about 20 of them, what with booze and hangovers.
What really confuses me about humans, is that those that can drink in moderation, drink in moderation, even when they're allowed to rip the bottom out of it.
Weird!

Joining a faceache fitness group is not the same as actually doing exercise you know? This has been proven beyond scientific doubt by various long-term randomised studies.
The unfortunate truth is that you've actually got to get yer running shoes on, get out into the cold, and start moving your overweight and dilapidated body in some kind of motion that resembles running.
hth ;D

you dont have to have a problem with it to stop ;)

I don't have a problem with heroin so wouldn't be much of a New Years resolution to stop it ;-)
-
Alcohol is weird in the way that if you say you are not drinking someone may ask if you have a drink problem, but if someone were to offer you a line of coke or a wrap of heroin and you said no thanks their next words probably wouldn't be "that's cool didn't know you had a drug problem"

True, I guess I can't see why you would give up something that isn't in some way causing you a problem, however small.
-
I suppose its just the knowing that you have the ability to stop and can stop.
Plus, theres too many older chaps proud of their beer guts. Nice to see that not everyone wants to head down that path ;D ;D
All the best to everyone n hope we all have a good year, dispite what Brexit and Trump have in store for us all

i made the choice to stop cause i wasnt enjoying it and that i could save thousand of pound and spend the money on doing things that i really enjoy and get somthing out of that, over 6-7 years with out a drink,
also its a unhealthy drug and it does you no good and i seen it for whats it worth, and the soon i relied that i didnt need a drink to let me hair down or to distress me or unwind,i found other ways to do it

I think that's impressive. Most people that stop, stop because they have no choice.
-
I resolve to brew more beer! Got a new mash tun.

We don't usually stop anything that we really enjoy, unless it's causing us problems.

One way to go about that is by concentrating solely on wimdows and not trying to do a thousand things

Oh, so booze didn't cause you any problems so you just stopped?
I suspect your denial is unconscious, but it's there.
Even if it was for weight loss, unless booze was causing some kind of problem, I doubt you would've stopped.
You see Wor Lass, she's a 'normal drinker'; she has no problems with her weight. She drinks maybe two-or-three times a year. Booze causes her zero problems so she's never had the thought "I'm going to stop drinking all together!"
I don't murder Russians. Not murdering Russians causes no problems. Therefore the thought "I will stop murdering Russians" does not occur to me.
But I might take it up for a hobby.
-
I don't drink, never had a problem with it. Hate the taste of most drinks to be honest, can't tell a good brandy from a bad one, whisky tastes vile. Red wine tastes like vinegar, white wine close behind.
Pint of Guinness is ok but I'm full after one. On top of all that I don't enjoy the effect of alcohol.
Weird aren't I?
I went through the usual drunken weekends as a teenager drinking, smoking and puking. Then I just thought what a joke it all was and a waste so gave it up. Giving up fAgs was harder than drink.

It's all relative though. To some, no problems would have meant not needing a drink to function in the morning. But, I think I agree with Tosh. ;D

nope no problem with the booze i made the choice to stop for a reason and not cause of a problem, that i could see it for what its worth, and it was nothing
remember its a drug and ive made the choice not to take the drug end of,and by that its able me to spend my money on other things that i enjoy,ie buy better bikes, ride aboard, enter more running events, spend more money on the house etc,if i was drinking then i could afford to do these things simple,
it doesnt have to be a problem to have to stop, you may think so,so i agree to disagree,

What about people on here trying to see the positive in things or people, for at least january anyway.
So somebody wishes to stop drinking and now it becomes an open debate to if hes got a problem with drink or not and if he will admit to having a problem even sub consciously or not. Suprisingly its the same characters as well

I thought this thread was about New Years resolutions, not disputing others life decisions.
Good for you Franky. Lots of people decide not to drink, for a multitude of reasons, you don't have to be an alky to live your life without it.
-
I have friends who obviously are hooked on the stuff. They are in their fifties and use Facebook to promote their habit. We were bombarded with images over Christmas of them 'having a good time' always a drink in hand or a picture of their lunch. I don't get it really but then I am 'unsociable'
Personally, I despise Christmas, hate every sodding minute of it. Not because of religious reasons (I respect that) more like I hate being told what to do.
Once you take a step back and observe everyone else you see what a farce the whole thing is.
Resolutions always seem to be about giving up something you've spent the last two weeks indulging in rather than something more positive.

I like a beer once or twice a week with football and do not think it is any more harmful than owning a motorbike(broken back?) life is about choices and i would never choose to own a motorbike like you choose not to drink. Each to there own eh.

I stopped smoking for the same reason, I wanted to spend my money on other things...
I realised the problem was , the cigarettes were consuming a lot of my money .
I used to enjoy smoking

Acohol causes all drinkers problems as it's slowly killing us and shouldn't be in our bodies no matter how little you drink. Same with cigarettes. People that don't smoke doesn't mean they ever had a problem with smoking.
-

Actually, this shows how little you know about the human body (not that I'm any expert). But our gut flora does produce small amounts of alcohol all on it's own; so we do have alcohol in our bodies.
There's a French lady too - she was something like 115 years old - and she put her longevity down to her daily dose of red wine.
You're jumping to an extreme; you'll normally find the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Good one and something I need to do. But not the windows bit.
I reckon people drink and smoke to reduce stress. Then decide to stop drinking and smoking because they are causing them problems and consuming too much of their money.
But cigarettes and alcohol-or is it my imagination- never consumed anyone's money by themselves. Someone decides that they need them, first of all.
I wonder who that is.

Of course, but you've missed the obvious point that alcohol - on a daily basis (albeit in moderation) - did her absolutely no harm.
Unlike Franky's bike riding, which nearly killed him.
-
I couldn't say it did her absolutely no harm.
And there's a difference between something doing her absolutely no harm and something being the reason she lived so long.
I'd say there were lots of reasons she lived so long and we shouldn't just take the daft old bat's word for it anyway.

We use alcohol on our hands to kill germs. That doesn't change just because we drink it.
Everyone drinks and its sold in shops, so everyone thinks it just a bit of fun, but it's doing all sorts of damage to our bodies.
If heron was sold / used the same way, we would all be defending that instead.

Mine is to remove myself from the business. Everything is automated so far apart from quoting, planning work and buying supply's.
I would like to get an operations manager in to take over but I know is going to be a mission to find someone decent.

It's all well and good teaching people lesson, but breaking the law to achieve that is beyond the pail. You may not think it's not breaking the law but it is.
If you're going to break the law I wouldn't publicise that fact on a forum that is open to your customers the police and any Tom Dick and Harry.
Most criminals think they're clever - the really stupid ones can't seem to help but tell the world about what they've done.

had the police on site after doing the first one, as long as we don't go on to there land then they wont get involed , they even told to shop keeper he should pay his bills funny as . said to the shop keeper it was a civil matter and nothing to do with them
-
Funny thing police......when i was 18 i worked in a local supermarket. We had loads of thieves coming in all the time and regularly called police to the shop. They looked at me and my friend at the time and said, "you guys are big enough, just give em a good beating in blind spot (from cameras) and when we come just say they tripped leaving the premises."
Be nice to wear a badge and break the law or shoot people and get away with it ;D
But thats probably gonna start another discussion all together.

Seems like a waste of time to me. And time is money.
You could have been doing something more useful- maybe earning more money- than that total waste of resources.
People have not been paying their bills for decades so you're wasting your time and money trying to teach them.
But if it makes you feel better.......then it's still a waste of time and money.
