Title: Will i make it through the day? Help?
Post by: jo5hm4n on December 14, 2016, 08:53:48 am
Okay so like the idiot i am, and i am sure i am not the only one to have done this.  I plugged my charger in overnight to the van system, but forgot to turn the switch on at the wall.  So i've charged it for 1 hour this morning before work and i ran it for 6 hours yesterday whilst working , will it last me the day?  I usually do a full charge every night, so i have no idea if its going to last me today or not, just want some advice, might even charge it a customers house on lunch break anything to just give it a bit of a charge.

Cheers

Split charge relay

Depends what size battery it is I suppose, how many pumps/flow rate used and the likes of running electic reels etc from the same battery. For example if using a 120 amp battery with just one pump it should last days surely?

That just reminded me my old pf trolley 25 amp battery I still use static in the van need charging too.  Oops!
Not to worry as I always carry 2 battery chargers in the van anyway. One for the softwash pump battery and the other for the pf trolley battery.  Then if need be I just plug the chargers in on site as I can still run the pumps whilst charging.

Looks like I will be doing that today. But will be only on one large job so the van don't have to move for approx 3 hours and that's me finished for the day.

Regards to a split charge relay I do approx 3,000 miles a year so never bothered to fit one myself.

If it's a decent sized battery and you're only running a single pump off it I reckon you'll be OK. Even for split charge relay they still recommend you bench charge the battery daily in order to keep it in tip-top condition (at least Pure Freedom do!)

Thats crazy advice from purefreedom , never charged mine since the day my relay was fitted .......up until i got a diesel heater .

If you still have to charge everyday its pointless!

Yes, I thought this advice was a bit over the top when I read it. Maybe Pure Freedom are trying to cover themselves against possible complaints.  I guess if your round is within a couple of miles of your home this may be more relevant (I don't have a split charge relay btw).

PF gave me the same advice for a pf trolley I bought new from them. Must be something in it as that original battery is now about 10 years old and works just fine still.  ::)roll

I recon it's always handy to have enough extra cable in the toolbox so if needed could run the pump from the van battery. (Mine is under passenger seat so don't need much cable) defo could get you out of a sticky situation.

Also used to charge my 75ah battery around every 2-3 days so should think you got through your day just fine. Unless it's a backpack or trolley and you might have got stuck

Got through the day boys :D

Not having a split relay decided not too and was advised not too because i have a new transit custom.  I really don't mind charging it up anyway its no big deal really takes about 30 seconds....

Managed to do a full days work, no noticeable drop in flow rate either so just goes to show could easily do 2 days work on 1 charge if necessary.  Flow rate was on 40 on a Pure Freedom Controller.

On my transit I just run a cable from the cigarette lighter in the cab for emergencies

Why do you have your flow so high ? Is that not just a waste of water !

I have mine on 70 using purefreedom as well. I also use 4 jets on the brush. The faster water flow means that you are able to rinsing at the same time as scrubbing which actually cuts doen on number of rinse passes which can mean a quicker clean making it possible to clean more houses in a day. I only use a fraction more water than when i spent most of my time in a day rinsing on a slower flow.

Thats what i personally have found anyway

But.....

I find full whack with no controller is even faster
I'm considering not even getting out of the van and just spraying through the van window,  that would be even quicker  ;D

I've recently upped the flow rate on mine and it makes a noticeable difference to the speed of the clean. (Thanks Daz for a couple of your comments) What really surprised me was that you don't use any extra water. I hardly do any miles so I have a couple of batteries and just keep one on charge (ctek charger) and just swap them over every few days. I always carry a spare so no need to worry.

Lol, i also was thinking of a 2nd hand fire engine. Fill her with pure water and simply drive up the streets and let her rip!!  Easily get way more than 35 in a day then 😂

Fair play to you boys but we don't go higher than 20 . We would be back home for lunch time and only done a couple of properties
with that flow rate  ;D

I agree faster flow means work quicker which means similar water usage. . . Which means 35 houses a day. Ok forget the last big.

You might be suprised with how much water you use on a quicker flow. If you have water storage at home ie, ibc tank and you work close to home. Give it a try on a higher flow rate and see. If you do run out, nip home for a top up.

I have 1000ltr ibc at home and a 500ltr tank in van. Takes about 5 mins to fill up from empty.  But thats regardless, as i never run out per day. I use flow of 70 because i use 4 jets and it gives an even spread of good flow. On a first clean i go up to 80.  But on a normal day, i would probably use 300 - 350 ltrs of water on a flow of 70. As seen on previous threads, i use a valve tap, by my waist on a holster to stop water flow between windows etc. Never ran out (unless i forget to top my tank up before i set off....done that once b4)

Wow, that works out at between eight and half to ten litres per property, we are not worthy. lol.

I guess i need to gauge my tank so i can be absolutely correct with how much water im guessing is either left in tank or amount taken out, depending on the pessimist or optimist reading the posts at any given time.

Dont want to muck up those equations  ;D ;D ;D

I up my flow rate to my amazement used half the amount of pure I would normally use and was twice as fast too   ;D
