Title: THE BIG FAT VAN THREAD
Post by: Craigp on December 13, 2016, 04:44:41 pm
Hi all,

Long time.

I'm looking for a new van, for the last 7 years I've a had a Fiat Ducato (Relay, Boxer)

I was going to get a newer and bigger one of the same, IMO a short wheel base low roof as I have now isn't really big enough for a TM, it doesn't leave much room for anything else.

I am now considering a Crafter/Sprinter next though.

What large van do you rate?

If anyones had both Relay/Ducato or Master/Movano and then the Crafter/Sprinter I would be interested to hear your thoughts, are Crafters really that much better built ect?

Wev'e had Movano's, Masters and Iveco , now have MB Sprinters.
They are simply the best.
This is reflected in the price and resale value.

I know Mark, its a bit like refusing to believe that truckmounts are way better than portys in the old days.
If only I had "believed" what people said about sprinters & TM's back then.

Interesting Glynn,

I am test driving one tomorrow but I find with a quick drive often you don't quite get to see or appreciate the difference.

Reviews always mention the higher load height, that's not bothered you then Glynn.

Would be nice to have cruise control on a van.

The new model sprinter ( 2014 0n ) have a lowered loading height, not disimilar to the FWD vans.

Quite agree Glynn, just a bit of banter.

How are you these days?

I must thank you for selling me your Extracta back then, set me on the right track

Cheers

Mark

We've done 100,000 in our VW LT35, since buying it with 75,000 on it about 6 years ago, and it's been great. We've also run a Citroen Relay over roughly the same time, and there's always a niggle with it. We'll be in the market for a new (second hand) van soon, and VW's & Mercs will definitely be top of that list - especially if I can find one with a big engine - ours is a 2.6L 186bhp, and it just burbles along.

That Crafter looks exactly the same as the new MAN van that is being released shortly.

Have you looked at the new Ford Transit Length 3 (L3) or L4 and Height 2 or 3?

I won't be getting that new model BTW, I'll be getting second hand, like a 1 or 2 year old one.
