i have been carpet cleaning for 4 yrs now and in the past year i have been suffering very badly with a painful elbow,it has to be from constant wand use.just wondered if anyone else has suffered with this and have found anyway of combating it,as some days it is so painful i can`t pick up a cup of coffee.would be very grateful for any advice.

My husband currently has that condition, he went to the Drs and she gave him a prescription for antiimflamatory painkillers (ibuprofen 400mg) and told him to rest it (which is o.k if you can take some holiday).
Best get yourself along to your GP as its not something that will just go away, my mother in law had it once too, and she ended up having cortisone injection to clear it up.
Good luck with it ;), as you say it can be very painful to even do the littlest of things.

hi there top cat
green glides could possibly ease the pain a little
i only used them once, but its a lot easier than normal wands

Yes at the moment my right elbow is painful somedays, even as you say lifting, such as a cup of tea or twisting my arm.
I have heard of tennis elbow but didn't realise this was what the symptons were. When i am using the wand i tend to do it one handed so maybe i should use both.
I will have to learn to be left handed.

You may need to look at your technique when using the wand and see if you can make it any easier. Also as Dave says perhaps using a glide would be beneficial to you especially if you are using a powerful machine, this makes wanding a whole lot easier. The best way to use a wand is to tilt it up slightly leaving just one lip touching the surface of the pile, this will give you more airflow making it easier to push & pull the wand, another benefit of this technique is it will give you faster drying times.
Hope this helps

TopCat;
I would highly suggest using Swivel Hose Cuffs on your vacuum hoses. This will make it easier to maneuver the hose instead of twisting them and thus putting tension on your arm.
Also, use bands on your forearms when working.
Good Fortune to you, sir;

Goes with the tingling in the fingers and locking of the fingers.
Repetitive strain sydrome....they tried to say mine was Carpel Tunnel Syndrome and wanted to operate but I decided I could live with it...glad I did
Watch out for the inflamatory tablets they are usually 'nsaids' these have been proved to be harmful long term
