Title: Advertising
Post by: Lesa m on December 05, 2016, 12:34:43 pm
Hi, we are a small cleaning company and just looking for a few more clients.  Where is the best place to advertise? I have a free lineage on yell.com and one on netmums I've tried leaflets and tbh that seems to be a waste of time.... Any other suggestions?

Hi, First of all do you have a professional looking website that works properly on all smart phones, tablets etc? If so does it come up on the first page of google organic local search results?
If no to any of the above then maybe worth having a chat with Nathaniel Jones the web guy that is advertising on this forum.

As far as yell advertising is concerned who realistically uses phone books anymore or actually uses their online directory these days when the likes of google works so well?  The only calls I can guarantee you will defo receive will be from yell sales team trying to extract loads of dosh from you for a paid listing.

Regards to advertising in other ways depends what your target market is and what areas you need to gain extra clients. Say If wanting to target mainly domestic then maybe you could consider advertising in a well established, highly distributed local parish/trade mag.  The one you already get posted through your door on a regular basis perhaps. Best to do this over a few months and see how it goes so your name gets known rather than a one off.

Hi smurf, thanks for your input.  I was thinking of website yell.com because when I do a search for cleaners that is one of the results.
I don't have a website..... Wouldn't know where to start ;D

My advice is to stay well a way from the likes of yell and concentrate on getting a pro website up  a running instead.
I would say having a pro looking website with quality content, seo etc is a must thesedays as if done right will generate loads more work for next to nothing.

I did all my own SEO (there are plenty of online resources and it's much easier than you  think - when you cut through the jargon) so there is no need to pay anyone for that. I pay a guy £15 per month to run my Google Ads, and spend £80 per month direct to Google. They are always at the top and I get a great ROI. Can't really stand Yell.com as I can appear above them quite often with good SEO.

"£15 per month to run my Google Ads, and spend £80 per month direct to Google"  :o

That's seems a lot of dosh to be forking out per month when your website should be generating all the work for you organically instead surely?

Not at all......I find the advertising generates a lot of work. You have to bear in mind that Google now quite often has 4 ads at the top and then the map as well, so even being at the top of the organic listings puts you "below the fold". The ads are far better value than any Yell advert......
