Title: Shurflo pump won't prime - any ideas?
Post by: Matt Stanley on December 04, 2016, 03:15:49 pm
Had to drain my van tank via my Shurflo pump to clear my van over the weekend and in so doing I ran the tank (and obviously the pump) dry - idiot!!  >:( >:( >:( I've put everything back in today but cannot get water to flow through the pump - the pump doesn't seem to want to prime. Any ideas what I can do to get everything going again?

Place pump as low down as possible (van floor).

It will prime eventually trust me. Just wack the pump on  full power for as long as it takes to get all the air out of the pipes and to prime the pump properly. Do this without the hose reel connected and until the pump tone changes back to normal so it's now on full flow coming out of the outlet pipe without spluttering.

Suck on the output end (or pipe). It'll soon come through.

Cheers everone.  Sucking seemed to make no difference but I removed the pump and then reconnected it on the ground outside the van and it primed instantly!  :D Thanks for all your help everyone  8)

Sounds to me was more likely a dodgy connector, kinked hose etc maybe  ::)roll
