even i surprise myself what weather i can work in at times! ::)roll ;D
today was awful.for me this is the worst weather to work in.cold, wet and windy.
a few times i nearly packed up and came home which is very rare for me.my work was mainly commercial today with a few posh houses thrown in here and there.i got plenty of brews and no one even mentioned the weather! ;D
i could of easily had the day off today but i like to chase the dollar. ;)
-
Well done. I gave up at dinner time, my excuse; just getting over a second helping of a cold and dont fancy a third term of it!
But, i was watching two chaps trad cleaning, brave but utterly futile. I always stress to any new customer how ive invested in this technology so it doesnt prevent me loosing wages because its raining.
-
Would have been told by most of my customers no to do them today if I had gone out and cleaned domestics in that weather.
Wouldn't have blamed them either I wouldn't have wanted mine done in that rain.
-
I worked in it no problems, was a bit uncomfortable but carried on anyway
-
I worked in it. Did a days money.
-
Never occurred to me not to.
-
If you WFP in this weather you might as well have saved your pure and used tap water.
-
You're assuming the weather is bad everywhere in the UK as it is in Yorkshire.
-
I worked in it. Did a days money.
What do you plan doing with your £25?
-
^^^ ;D
I had work along the coast today so it was pointless due to strong winds and salt. Some of it was commercial work so I've now got to do that this evening. I'm off out in 10 minutes till about 11pm. Hey ho.
-
If you WFP in this weather you might as well have saved your pure and used tap water.
Wrong , I take it you don't clean windows full time, you do part carpet cleaning part windows?
-
£300+ for me!!
-

Agree, wind and rain is a big no no for me.
-

ive been working in the rain since i went wfp nearly 7 years ago and now hardly any customers mention the weather as its "normal" for me to crack on but even i was pushing it a bit today! ;D
-
same crappy weather forecast again tomorrow! ::)roll although ive got a £70 inside and out booked in first thing followed by run of mill monthly domestics and a little canopy clean.oh what joy!
-
I worked all day, windows looked lovely until I got back to the van, write out receipts.
I did feel slightly guilty popping the bills through the doors and seeing leaves and shrapnel all over the windows.
I'm sure that guilt will subside when I get paid ;D
-
Left home at 8.40am finished just in time before the strong winds and rain kicked in around 12.45pm. Snooker all afternoon ;D
-
I worked in it. Did a days money.
What do you plan doing with your £25?
A rattle, for you, cos you keep throwing yours out the pram.
-

Wrong , I take it you don't clean windows full time, you do part carpet cleaning part windows?
Your cleaning mixing pure with rainwater.........................yes I mainly do carpet cleaning part time windows....what difference does that make to the fact that your mixing unpure with pure to clean windows
-

Aww bless. Dry your eyes ;D

Am I...read the title of the thread....says awful weather so not really an assumption

Tap water has a totally different TDS reading to rainwater . You do part time window cleaning so you can pick and choose when you do it unlike someone who has a full round.
Hmm custys hate it that much I feel sorry for you guys who go to all that effort to clean in dry weather and then it hammers it down before the owners get home . I bet they're sooo mad at you for cleaning in the rain - honestly I cleaned them when it wasn't raining 🙄🙄😂😂😂😂
-
I'm so rich I didn't need to work today, might not work tomorrow either as I don't have to.
-
I'm so rich I didn't need to work today, might not work tomorrow either as I don't have to.
Me too , think il sack all my custys off until spring. It might stop raining by then
-
I felt so bad about today's weather I went and gave yesterday's customers a full refund too.
Customer service and all that.
::)roll
-
They're all on £200+ plus per day but "clean" windows in the rain because they can't afford a day off
-

So it has a totally different TDS...would that be above 0....so it's still not pure...so your now not cleaning pure..and there was silly me thinking you all clean pure like you advertise
-
Someone's got a big fat stick up their arse.
-
Is that a reply or just a load of crap from someone who posted on here what he done but is a a bit of a dreamer..
-
I love all the crybabies who don't train their customers and are so lacking in confidence that they can't clean in the rain "because their customers won't like it."
Pathetic.
-
Your not cleaning pure that your advertising....so much for pros....you educate your customers you clean pure then clean unpure
-
Plus your not cleaning in the rain your just convincing yourself you are....sound like some of the bullies round here that clean windows in rain when customers do not want it....
-
Rubbish J and S. I'll tell you why.
Rain water is typically 20/25 ppm. (Unless it is salt laden near the sea) Perfectly acceptable when it lands on a window in a shower for the cleaned windows to remain clean. Also my customers are paying me to remove (usually) one or two months worth of dirt when I call. Also I offer a guarantee that if the customer is not happy within 24 hours I will call back and fix the problem.
They have those safeguards because I explain it to them and I have been cleaning their windows wfp for over ten years and trad. ten years before that.
You saying there is bullying is ridiculous. Now THAT is a reason for any customer to say "on yer bike".
-
Strange but when I clean my windows in decent weather or even light rain they come up perfect, I cleaned them once in the wind and rain using the usual technique and guess what, they were a mess. If I replicated these poor results onto my customers I would be of the view that my customers were receiving a bad service and poor value for money, hence the reason I choose not to clean in these conditions. My business, my choice.
-

rainwater is basically pure , apart from the small amount of contamination it picks up on its way down , it is after all distilled water .
The tds of rainwater , if collected without running off a dirty roof , is generally lower than some of the people on here clean with!

Ahh now I get it. Right I'm off to the shops tomorrow to buy some goretex gear so I can work in all weathers ;).......Ooops wait a minute, I can't, I'm skint because a never worked today in the wind and rain ;D
As my technique seems to be the reason for the poor results, perhaps you could give me some pointers as to the correct technique? Is it possible to just let the rain lash against the windows and pretend you have cleaned them then collect payment as normal?
-
Is that a reply or just a load of crap from someone who posted on here what he done but is a a bit of a dreamer..
Feck me you're an ugly bugger you are.

An idiot deleted my post for some reason ::)roll

We allow for one day a week of bad weather, and stick 20% on to our prices to compensate this. So when it rains we have the day off.Our choice. Some people dont mind working in the wet, I do!!
-
I see this place never changes ... lol. My 2 penneth worth. To carpet cleaner poster ...leave it mate u r fighting a losing battle not worth the agg. Re rain. Work on all weathers. Qe dont work in really heavy raon coa u get too qet and cant carry on 4 rest of day. Guess what ...raining go to work not raoning go to work. Train customers ....correct communication is key....jobs a goodun xx
-
When it rains heavily, it'll pick up poop on the walls and dump it on the glass. Doesn't bother me as I my brush is 8 months old and does a poor job regardless of precipitation.
-
They're all on £200+ plus per day but "clean" windows in the rain because they can't afford a day off
ive got over £10,000 in emergency fund savings but i still like to get out and work to keep on schedule.i like earning the money mate.
whats the difference between cleaning windows when its dry and 2 hours later its hammering it down and blowing a gale?it happens a lot more frequently in the autumn/winter months.no difference whatsoever!im still cleaning a months/2 months dirt off the windows regardless of other dirt blowing on them so they ll still be cleaner than they were. ;)
i used to skip whole weeks due to bad weather when i was trad(and guess what?i was also skint at times!)that now i work and earn at least £800-£1200 by going out and doing my normal 5-6 hour a day stint.5 days a week.
most time off now is scheduled time off(holidays, xmas, etc).
its the best way of running a one man business IMO.
-

Its a wonderful place this forum for liars, boasters, fantasists and the insecure. You can say what you want, its great!
As I said before some idiot deleted my post, I knew somebody who used to supply some of the clowns on here. They drove crap cars, lived hand to mouth and couldn't receive credit. Confirming my description.
-
That's my carpet cleaning head.
-
If you clean carpets with your head it's no wonder you decided to give window cleaning a try. Use a brush, not your scalp. It'll do wonders for your complexion.

I really wish I had said something offensive and outlandishly insulting but I used the word pi$$.

I aggree, in heavy rain/wind its go home time otherwise will get complaints and have to redo anyway.
-
I see Slack Bladder likes to hand it out a bit.
Been doing the windows for about 14 years now as an add on.....carpet cleaning is great but your stuck indoors all day.....nice in Summer to get outside for a change.
It's also great for last minute carpet cancellations .

Did you work yesterday?
-
Yes but I don't make it personal....but hey ho whatever floats your boat.
-
Yes its the same old nonsense, if they're not puffing out their chests blowing about earnings they're blowing about
working in horrendous weather conditions.
Next week they will be bragging about being able to get the higher earnings by offering a better service than the five quid
cheapo who has to work in all weather conditions just to keep afloat.
I work for me to my standard and if I believe the windows wont be clean when the customer picks up my posted clean slip then I
wont be cleaning that day, I don't care what the weather does after that because its beyond my control.
Price right, don't fill your round to busting, work to yearly targets instead of from day to day and missing a few stormy days
wont be a major concern.
-
Some of you need to grow up - like a bunch of kids.
Keyboard warriors bet you wouldn't spout any of that drivel if you were face to face.
-
Yawn.
Not this again..

Hi Ross,
no , not yesterday.
But was out 6.30 am on shops this morning. When sun came up it was blue skies, I've come home and had breakfast, now its grey drizzle :'(. but I can work with that - not like yesterday ! How about you ?

Iv got about £12 in 1 and 2ps in an old whiskey bottle.
I'm saving for a new whiskey bottle.
-
Weather nice down south cold though in the wind

For the ones who say you couldnt work in rain for this reason or that. Have you actually worked in the rain?? Im guessing a good majority havent and the others who may have done and moan at customers complaints, it might be a case of looking at your technique. Stop throwing dummy out at the ones who have invested in this method because of being tired with traditional methods and loosing plenty of days off due to weather. It makes me chuckle the trad workers who work in rain, because that is totally a waste of time and should be turned away. Look into it, before calling me on this point!!
For ones who wfp and it rains after we have cleaned, whos windows are spotted, trad windows or wfp? Provided technique is good on wfp, it certainly wont be wfp windows. Thats also with the rain splashing on the walls etc etc as someone posted earlier. Its like the moaners who say its hard to clean wfp in direct sunlight as it dries with spots, what the heck!! Why dont we dry the water off again? Oh yes, its because its purified and dries clear!!
Its more about how much the operator wants to get wet? However personally, when its hammering itself down and windy, ild sooner take the day off.
-
I just find these bragging posts cringeworthy. I don't know why mature people do it, probably a deep seated reason somewhere. Small genitals perhaps?

Nathan nobody's talking about working in the rain or between showers as we have all done it, its about working in stormy
conditions that will destroy the quality of the clean on the day, and yes I have tried and tested the results as I'm sure have others.
-
If they don't want them cleaning in the rain not a lot you can do.
To be honest I wouldn't want to think I was paying for mine doing in the rain....it's not pure after all.
-

That's the whole point! If the custys said don't clean them then they wouldn't get cleaned! it's you that's decided not to clean in the rain not the customer, instead , the customer brings coffee out and biscuits!!
-
He said pretty much the same thing yesterday.
Yes yes we know, you can’t clean in the rain and rainwater isn’t pure; despite the fact that a few cleaners on here harvest their rainwater and use it to clean with. Its a lot purer than you think and certainly up to the job.
You’re going to dispute that, I know, but you’re just showing your ignorance when you do.
-
Surely people who use rain water polish it off with resin?
My rain water varies between 8 and 20s.
-
Same as mine. I don't polish it if it's going in a half filled tank of pure.
-
Jesus ......... ???
Doing the outsides now of a big job,
Current weather conditions are hail stoning and lashing down, half 6 at night and am slogging it out.
Who says ya can't work in the rain ffs guys we live in the uk, window cleaners would be out of work for weeks if that was the case
Those of us who have commercial work have no choice but to crack on regardless of the weather
I would post a pic but the nasty mob will turn gangster on me

My rain water varies between 8 and 20s.
You would certainly want to put it through a sediment filter to remove any sediment that might dry on the glass,
The water in my tank is around 29ppm which I polish off with resin, bypassed the resin a few days back and tried it on my
own windows which came up perfect.

Yeah but there's a huge difference isn't there between commercial work and residential ?
A big job you say, probably needing to be done out of hours ? doubt it comes out of any single persons monthly income - more a case of out of an allocated budget. Consider then Mr and Mrs Smith with their 3 bed semi on a fixed income that you clean once a month for them, they are going to expect value for money and a good service. Whats going to secure customer loyalty to you and not given reason to try out your competition ?
One possible answer could be not turning up in a howling gale with the rain lashing down. Any sensible person would question this and to be honest I wouldn't be happy paying my hard earned either.
I cannot think of a single time in nearly 15 years where I have been out of work for weeks because of bad weather. Remember we are talking here about storms, high winds and lashing rain and hail not general run of the mill weather . Jesus........???

It's usually Dazmond who starts it. Maybe deep rooted lack of self esteem or something, got to big himself up all the time.
It can't be your last suggestion with his super fit girlfriend surely.
-
got to first job today around 915am and the hailstone, sleet and thunder was unbelievable!luckily it was an inside and out.by the time id finished the insides(an hour).it had stopped but ground was pretty icy.thankfully this is where a hot water system comes in handy esp for thawing the ice on the velux windows! ;D
the rest of the day was ok really with only the odd shower.all scheduled work cleaned and weekend off. :)
if i hadnt of worked yesterday id have to either work tomorrow(i very rarely work saturdays anymore)or squeeze a day in next week which would be impossible as im too busy next week with other scheduled work.
-
i just still find it amazing that even in crappy weather i can still earn a good wage day to day thanks to WFP.
dont forget ive spent 23 years window cleaning and most of that i just about scraped a living together.i nearly went out of business a few times, debts etc.
them days are over and sometimes i still pinch myself how ive managed to build a much better business for myself.
-
That's the spirit Dazmond!
You clean when you want to - just because others won't is no reason for you to change.
Reminds me of when I was in sales and the particular products we were selling didn't usually sell too well in the run up to and around Xmas as buyers often went on holiday and meetings of decision makers got delayed until the new year. All us old hands "knew" that December sales tended to wind down around about the 20th December making it a "short month".
A new kid joined the team in the October and he was out push push pushing and got a couple of massive orders a day or two before Xmas eve. He had the best sales month of all of us and when the Sales Director handed out the prizes (on top of all the commission he would have earned) he asked him to explain how and why he had done so well.
The successful lad said "I suppose it's because I didn't know December was supposed to be a bad month."

So ur point is the customer won't want to pay for the service in the rain...... Coz ur just chatting bubbles there. All week it's been shocking weather so there's 1 week. Someone posted yesterday they had snow so what's the plan there, take a hair dryer out with u.
The reason I was working on this job at that time in them conditions has nothing to do with me being afraid of them checking the competition out ;D ;D ;D
It's a bloody event clean, but I can't tell u that coz u will prob no better than I will.
Ring ring ... Hello it's the window cleaner here.... Just 👀 out there it's torrential how am I meant to do my job, I would like u to contact the nessecary people and have this event called off... Rescheduled it please

i just still find it amazing that even in crappy weather i can still earn a good wage day to day thanks to WFP.
dont forget ive spent 23 years window cleaning and most of that i just about scraped a living together.i nearly went out of business a few times, debts etc.
them days are over and sometimes i still pinch myself how ive managed to build a much better business for myself.
It's hard sometimes but u have to go through the muck and come out the other side,
good honest post Daz

Thought the idea was to clean with pure but never mind.
If your cleaning in this at this time of night one word springs to mind
And what's the word that springs to mind ........
Kerching kerching?

Jesus ......... ???
Doing the outsides now of a big job,
Current weather conditions are hail stoning and lashing down, half 6 at night and am slogging it out.
Who says ya can't work in the rain ffs guys we live in the uk, window cleaners would be out of work for weeks if that was the case
Those of us who have commercial work have no choice but to crack on regardless of the weather
I would post a pic but the nasty mob will turn gangster on me
Yeah but there's a huge difference isn't there between commercial work and residential ?
A big job you say, probably needing to be done out of hours ? doubt it comes out of any single persons monthly income - more a case of out of an allocated budget. Consider then Mr and Mrs Smith with their 3 bed semi on a fixed income that you clean once a month for them, they are going to expect value for money and a good service. Whats going to secure customer loyalty to you and not given reason to try out your competition ?
One possible answer could be not turning up in a howling gale with the rain lashing down. Any sensible person would question this and to be honest I wouldn't be happy paying my hard earned either.

Alright calm down.
I'm not chatting bubbles but you appear to be spitting them for some reason.
We are not talking about rain here, we are talking about storms and I did mention residential - my customers would not like that and I wouldn't blame them for feeling that way. Everybody is going to be different and know their customers and what is and what isn't acceptable to them. I'm not assuming anything at all and not implying I know better than you. You are talking about a commercial job for an event - that's quite a difference to run of the mill work for most and I did point that out , why are you struggling to grasp that ?
I work in rain if I want/need/have to
I don't work in storms.
If I had large commercial work that had to be done regardless of the weather condition or I was obligated to then obviously I would work in a storm.

I stopped working in the tornado last week and took the van in for a wash and polish and a bit of detailing work.
Taking it back next week - looked worse than before, I want my money back!

Did you work yesterday?
Hi Ross,
no , not yesterday.
But was out 6.30 am on shops this morning. When sun came up it was blue skies, I've come home and had breakfast, now its grey drizzle :'(. but I can work with that - not like yesterday ! How about you ?
I was out at about 9am Friday to do shops and hopefully finish early enough to do the houses I missed on Thurs having caught up with Thurs commercial work Thurs evening finishing at around 11.30pm. Then Friday late morning it pee'd down and work stopped for a few hours so I finished all the shops and decided to catch up on Saturday. Saturday ended up no go so now I've got behind yet again and Monday looks like it might be a right off as well.

I was considering working tonight but the weather not looking good.

Well I went out in the bad weather on Friday and three of my domestic customers gave me Xmas tips! First of the season too.
Go figure.

really awful weather and earned £000-00 today!! ;D

TDS your rain water it's between 002-004 on average sometimes 006
It's lower than many sometimes use to clean, any how I just turn up the flow and crack on
, all customers trained I work in all weather
I quite like working in the rain, people don't want to stand and talk so it s great
Only time I stop Is lighting storms seems daft waving along carbon pole around waiting to catch a spark , even my daughter got used to it now although she's much quicker in the rain, as she wants to get back in the van
