Title: Tulsion Resin - I've had enough now.
Post by: Dave Willis on November 03, 2016, 04:38:44 pm
There's got to be a better resin out there surely? Tulsion just gets worse and worse.

You could go nuclear instead then and see if it's the same with that?
Mind it would be a bit pointless as there is no gizmo to find out if it works or not  ;D ;D

Always got my Tulsion MB115 from Daqua and it's always been good. Stays on 003 ppm for around 3 or 4 months.

Erm, that's where it comes from. I have a brand new RO, brand new vessel, twin set up and the crap only stays at zero for three weeks max.

There's something wrong there Dave and would gamble its nothing to do with your resin,
What level is the RO taking the water down to ?

DI vessels can become damaged and there are rubber seals in there that deteriorate over time and need replaced.

It was the same on a different RO with different resin vessel. It's definitely the resin. Brilliant stuff when they brought it out years ago it wiped the floor with all the other resins at the time. Not any more.
Coming out of ro 009 (brilliant) after resin 002 and that's a twin set up.

Just checked again and it's up to 003. They must make it out of sawdust.

Hi Dave

It could be that the chemical composition of your water has changed which is affecting your resin life  :(

Or if you are unable to get 000ppm reading from new it may be that your DI vessels are allowing untreated water to mix with the treated water giving a reading of greater than 000ppm. This could be down to your riser tube O rings seals or the riser tube itself becoming fractionally ovoid with age.

The performance of the Tulsion resin we supply has not changed at all since we started selling it. The Tulsion resin we supply is all batch tested (not all Tulsion supplies in the UK are batch tested) for performance and is not allowed through unless it is performing exactly as it should.

Alex how long would you expect a D.I. vessel to give guaranteed performance before something starts deteriorating and it doesn’t operate as intended? 5 years?

surly theres a massive market for a better resin ?? its ok inventing vision , light brushes , lighter poles , yet the most and the biggest repeat seller out of everything we buy is resin !!!!  hello supplyers  wake up and invent a better one or are they not doing this because its a money spinner for them ?

Dave at 009ppm from RO even crappy resin will last longer than 3 weeks especially on a double DI, there's either high
tds water getting at it or faulty vessels.

One vessel is brand new, I changed it because the resin always looked dry when the cap was removed. I've refreshed again tonight and swopped vessels around.  See how it goes this time.

Try another tds meter. I have two and one reads 1 to 2ppm above the other. They both read zero when the resin is just changed but one goes up to 001 while the other is 000, then later it goes to 001 and the other meter goes to 002.

The difference is small - out of the tap one might read 300 and the other 302.

I thought my resin was not performing like it did,  then noticed my tap water reading has shot up from 57 to 107. How much does chlorine affect tds readings?

I understand that the water authorities can draw water from different reservoirs and this can impact on the tds water readings.

Not sure if chlorine effects tds readings but if you want to put it to the test fill a glass from your tap and check the tds, let it sit
for a few hours and check it again to see if its the same or lower, the chlorine will have evaporated.

009? Just use your RO and ditch the resin and DI at those prices.
