Mandy, my sister in law and the latest franchisee, has discovered she has carpal tunnel syndrome in both her wrists. She has been advised by the doctor to give up working as a window cleaner as the repetitive use of the pole will only make things much worse.
Both her Mum and Nan suffered with rheumatoid arthritis, so she is not taking any chances.
One fully working franchise up for grabs if anyone's interested. :'(

Hi Lance
Sorry to hear that :'(.
How much turnover per week had you built her franchise up to?
Andy
-
I got diagnosed with carpal tunnel 17 years ago and never got told by my doctor to give up window cleaning
-
Looking on the bright side at least Mandy don't have to put up with you work wise anymore ;D
Seriously please send Mandy my best regards as must have been a real blow for her.
-
I get that. I have to count my money with the other hand now.
-
She only wanted part time hours so it's turnover is currently £17,500.
Approximately 5-6 (Some bi-monthly jobs) very easy days work each month. I'd be finished just after midday on each day.
She's genuinely gutted Alan, going back to work for the NHS.
-
Same as me, in that all the work is done in the first 3 weeks of each month. Nothing regular after the 21st of each month.
-
have just been told i have that

sounds more like an excuse to get out of window cleaning.some people just dont like it!(or dont make enough money at it)

Dazmond, she's certainly not throwing the towel in because she can't hack it. She's quadrupled her previous hourly wage too and she's only just getting to grips with it.
She's currently experiencing numbness in her hands and forearms when she's resting and just doesn't want to risk long term health problems.
-
I'm a feminist, so I don't mean to sound sexists, but not many females can hack being a window cleaner for long.
Wor Lass has been one for about 13 years now, but she's 'nails' and not a normal human being (she wins 100 mile ultra marathons).
I don't know any other women, apart from her, who've been a window cleaner for very long.

Thats the difference between packing it in and plodding on with slight pain like we do. Not worse the agony mate

I expect her decision has something to do with the weather as it's not every woman's type of job. There are ways around CTS if she's really disappointed.
-
Both my brothers and I have TCS in both wrists, all 3 of us have had an operation on the right wrist (all right handed) but not one of us has gone back to have the other wrist done!
The operation is really, really, horrible, it's not the pain but you can feel them tearing, cutting and ripping about in your wrist.
They used to put people to sleep but now as with most operations they prefer you awake to increase the torture. ;D ;D ;D ;D

carpal tunnel syndrome Can be fixed by an operation. its a simple operation. You walk in and walk out the same day. I have had two done. |Off work for max three weeks. Many hairdressers have this problem. I would not say its career stopper.Maybe window cleaning is a crap image job.
