I have been using Land Rovers to clean windows for about 15 years. I started out with a series 3 109 in 2001/2002. We stuck a roof rack on it chucked on some ladders and away we went. It was a perfect replacement for our old escort vans which lasted a year before they were trashed. When we switched to WFP we had to design something that would fit in the back as everything out there was designed to go in a van. Over the years our 'brand' developed (along with our system) and we went on to Defenders.
Sadly Land Rover stopped producing Defenders and, with the replacement likely to be completely outwith a sensible shiners budget we decided to go with Isuzu Dmaxs. This has left me with somewhat of a quandary. Do I spend the money converting our Defenders back to standard or do I sell them as they are, a great working window cleaning vehicle.
I recon the best course of action is to stick one up for sale and see what happens. The first one to go is 'Viking' a 2007 110 with 60k on the clock. It's fitted with a 450l DI 2 man set up with COX reels. Split charge to a leisure battery. I'll be putting it on ebay tomorrow. I'll post a link if Tosh and co let me.

Why sell the current ones? Why not just use them until they die?

Get them back to standard, sell reuse the window gear and keep the defenders
Couple of years and they'll be worth a fair bit I reckon...

We have 10 vehicles, Nothing we own is newer than 2009 our mechanic is set to retire soon and my current aim is to stop concentrating on sales and start saving money. It's time to move on.

I'll be keeping one or two. Getting them back to standard isn't going to be cheap. Not all of the WFP stuff is reusable. The tank for example is custom fitted to a 110 tub.

No mate, i purposely omitted them as the idea is that its just transport and the operative will hopefully (if they want to earn money) be stood outside it cleaning. And if speed was an issue i.e needing to get down the motorway fast, i assume a certain amount of intellect will not let you choose a Landrover.

In reality this is the newest 'puma' version of the Defender. It's the same engine as the Ford Transit and has a 6 speed gearbox. It cruises at 70 no bother and returns an average of 28mpg (by modern standards that's crap but as far as defenders go it's not too bad, especially carrying 1/2 a ton of water). The reason I'm selling the pumas first is that they are less desirable as a Land Rover (the purists don't like them) but they are much more civilized on the road.
The Land Rover's main appeal, in the beginning, was durability. I still have the first series 3 I bought. It's now 36 years old. What happened without our planning is that we immediately stood out from everyone else and it allowed us to grow without spending anything on advertising. You can put any livery you like on your van, to the average person on the street you are still just a van. The Land Rovers get noticed.

Your fleet looks the nuts. I wouldnt be able to bring myself to sell.

Would make ideal motors for cleaning solar panel farms I would have thought ::)roll

what are they like under heavy loads , our transit swb hits 5tonne in weight with all the gear and the trailer on the back , still pulls well being a 140 bhp but were always worried about getting bogged down on solar farms , and have been looking at a defender to taje the place of the transit

Like I said the tank in ours is only 450l but there is plenty of torque. You can't tell the difference between full and empty while driving.
I've never got one stuck yet, and I've tried.

Shame that mate , can't beat an old landy .... not sure about the transit version as for Isuzu , the rodeo version in early days was near indestructible, again the Newer stuff with CR derv is out of my pay grade but if it's anything lije the old 3.0 Isuzu it will run for ever.
