Title: working tax credit and registering this with HMRC?
Post by: applepicker on October 19, 2016, 07:21:29 am
Been looking into different options. If you do tax credits do you need to register with hmrc? If so, how do you do this?

is there minimum of 30 hrs u must work?

Running your business- how do you record your outgoings and ingoings? use excel?

Is it better to use a new bank account and use only that for business use and money paid in and not mix up with other bank accounts?

To be honest I think most on here like myself use an accountant. It costs me £200 per year and I get peace of mind knowing everything is done right, so I can't really help there with tax credits.

As for records I use a form of spreadsheet, it's numbers for apple on my iPad. All my work is put into days and I just work through it till I reach the end of the month. All work is grouped together in areas too, but if you wanted to spend about £15 per month you can get good software like cleanerplanner to organise your work for you.

You are definitely better having a business account or atleast a seperate account for your work money. If you offer people the option of bacs payments then it can get very easy to miss a payment when things are constantly coming and going from the account.

Santander do a good business account for £7.50 per month.

You can do your own Self Assesment on line every year,     You will need a printer  etc. When you register S/employed hmrc will give you a uniqe refference number. keep it safe.  Use it to log into HMRC.
You will need a self assesment Template,
Dates worked,
hours,
money taken,
money spent,
fuel etc, mots etc   Bussines expenses, phones equipment, much more.
add all takings up, Deduct expenses etc.   Total left.   Something like this
eVERY YEAR FILL THESE DETAILS IN AT HOME ON sEPERATE MONTHLY ACCOUNT SHEETS,  dO THE SAME ONLINE WHEN YOU FILL YOUR YEARLY SELF ASSSMENT

You need to register with HMRC if you do tax credits, don’t do tax credits, if you have no head, one arm, are a black lesbian one legged wheel-chair racing fluid-gender chinaman.

There is an exception for Geordie Japanese people though.

At least there should be.  :'(

Wow you've been asking questions about benefits since 2015 , have you still not managed to find enough work to come off them?
I think your better off phoning the tax office as I don't think many if any window cleaners ( that contribute to the forum) are on benefits .
