Title: Protecta Ball or Protector Disc - Which is best for protecting hose fittings?
Post by: Cookie on October 01, 2016, 09:19:02 pm
I currently use the Protecta Ball to help protect hose fittings but am still getting a fair amount of wear. Has anyone tried the Protector Disc (from Pure Freedom) - is it any better? Or are there any other solutions out there?

Neither, dont bother with any of them. The disc is heavy n clumsy, i used it for about half a day, perhaps not even that before i had to take it off!
Try the search feature on here, this topic was bought up not overly long.

I posted this exact same topic only a week ago.  Most comments basically just advised to not drag the connectors along the floor a the best method to avoid wear.  Also don't disconnect pole hose from main hose unless you have too.  This is the method i am trying now and hopefully they will last much longer.

Or Exceed connector protector or Exceed tubeless conversion  , I use the latter and am still running same fittings over a year later.

I used the Protecta ball way for years. Over last few months ( since univalve came out) I've gone over to the Exceed tubeless conversion which uses a sheath cover over the rectus fitting to connect it to bottom of pole  and in use, never touches the ground as it goes into and up pole when extended and collapsed.
Worth a punt. Imo, best system on the market at the mo.

i have a protectaball, then a tennis ball on my hose,  then i have a disc from purefreedom on my reel hose near  tap.    i always drag the reel hose to where i need to go. then drop
its just to protect my fittings from bashing around the floor

End of hose connect to a on/off valve switch and stick a female rectus21 on end.
Buy 2 leather tap holster and fit onto your belt. End of pole hose a male rectus21 fitting.
Then when working wrap the hosepipe around your waist, securing tap valve in holster at one side n hose through the other. Simples!!
Fastest way to turn water on/off, naturally to your side. Your pole hose infront of you, main hose behind you. NO trip hazards, walk n your hose will follow/trail behind you. Last benefit being your fittings dont touch the floor once and therefore last a very long time and no stupid balls stuck on your hose or heavy protector rubber disc.

how do you get it out without  unclipping fittings, do  you have to disconnect from pole hose to reel   back in van

you want one of these hi tech, robust protecters...we use them and works perfectly, you just need one big enough to fit over your pole hose connector and slightly bigger than the female connector....job done

Walk back to van. Unclip holsters and reel in.  Simply leave pole hose connected. So when back out van, clip back into holster, pick up your pole and go. No need to disconnect pole hose from valve. Or should i say, ive not needed to unless im doing any maintenance or fetching into house for instance.

Ive zoom in a little on this photo, sorry its a little blurry

I now slide my pole down side of the van (to left of the tank) and i use a gutter bracket fixed to wheel arch (which is boxed in my van) which i rest pole on to keep brush of van floor so not to spread the bristles etc.  Keeping it neat n tidy. So pole hose n valve connection on main hose just sits to side of hose reel when not in use.

It will become clear when you have one.

Your right, those slits are so you can slide the holster onto a belt. The holster has two stud fasteners which you can see on the image (ebay image of holster), which holds the valve in place. Unclip them and the valve/hose pops out
