Title: kobold backpack charger issues ?
Post by: richard groves on August 16, 2016, 05:28:09 pm
Same as the gardiner backpack.
Anybody ever had problems with the charger ?
I went to recharge backpack last night and when plugged in the chargers light remained green instead of going to red when charging and green when charged  ??? went to use it today - it hadn't charged  :(
Have taken the backpack apart and can see no obvious problems - am charging it just now from a 12v car/motorcycle charger direct to batteries terminals .
The backpacks charger appears to be a sealed unit, I can replace it if indeed that is the problem, has this happened to anybody else ?

No, but we had issues with a charger from an ESC505 backpack.

I prized the unit apart (its stuck together) and found the wire to the charger's pc board had broken at the cable stay where it's secured between the two housings. I cut the cable back and soldered it to the pc board. Generally botched it all back holding the housings together with insulation tape.

The intention was for it to last long enough whilst I ordered a new charger which I never did. It lasted for a few months before the controller went so I put the £45.00 cost for the speed contoller panel assembly and charger towards a new backpack from Gardiners.

On our backpack there was an internal fuse but a can't recall if it just 'covered' the charger of the control panel as well.

Thanks Phil, may well do if I get no joy trying to fix myself.

If you plug the charger into the mains without plugging it into the backpack, does the led light up? If not then the problem is with the charger. First point of call would be to check the fuse in the plug.

Your led lights up when you plug the charger into the backpack, so the backpack side isn't the issue.
