Title: weeds!!!
Post by: nathankaye on August 16, 2016, 04:51:54 pm

I cleaned this drive less than 3 months ago. It still looks great, apart from all the weed regrowth. Now i soaked all bricks etc with strong hypo as well as turbo nozel etc etc as we do.
I thought the hypo mix would kill at the roots as well and perhaps slow down any re growth atleast. Or is it down to the kiln sand im using. I know theres sand out there with weed prohibitors and they may kast a little longer before regrowth, but they work out quite expensive.
Sadly this is a client of mine for regular other services and so it will do my nut in! The client hasnt said anything it just makes me wonder about my other clients work that ive done.
Any answers guys or is it a case of using a sealant, but is that effective for the cost??

All the same they are supposed to maintain their drive after you cleaned it surely?
That what happens when people are lazy and too tight to pay for a decent sealer. I'm also betting that is a north facing driveway too.

Still people like that keep us all in work I suppose  ;D

That's one good reason why I don't put boards out after just a clean and resand as reflects badly back on me for no fault on my own how quickly weeds, moss etc can grow back if the surface is not properly maintained.

Absolutely correct!  Paving Experts recommend that Block paving is regularly swept and washed down occasionally using mild soapy water.  This prevents weed growth.  It doesn't matter a JOT whether the BP is sealed with the best sealer in the World it is sealed to prevent the ingress of staining not to act as a WEEDKILLER.  Weeds form on CORRECTLY INSTALLED block paving mainly in the dirt in the joints from the surface not from below.  If the BP is installed and sanded correctly then regularly swept  and lightly washed down weeds will be kept to an absolute minimum.  Failure to correctly resand especially after PW will also rapidly promote weedgrowth

Hypo is not weedkiller.

It's important to remember that the weeds have not returned, new weeds have replaced them, just like if you clean a shirt in the washing machine, when it gets dirty again it's not the old dirt that has returned it's new dirt.

Even if you apply weedkiller before cleaning you still will have weed growth over the following months. What I tell customers is........I will give them a fresh start and if they keep a sprayer of roundup by the door and treat any weeds as they appear it  will  stay weed free...... but do nothing and the weeds will come back and the drive will eventually return to its original weedy condition

A decent selear will defo help in preventing weed growth as locks the sand between the joints too making it more difficult for weeds to take root on the surface and/or try to push through. Once sealed properly is also much easier to maintain.

As i type, ive forgot the name of it now. Is it silk sand ?? You sand it into all the joints, ensure non is left on service of blocks and then lightly water and it dries solid.
Its quite expensive, but im sure that should give a long life of no weeds??
Anygood??
