So got an IBC Tank (used) from Purefreedom with the 450GPD RO mounted to the frame. Everything seems to work fine, except the IBC is leaking slightly out the outlet at the bottom of the tank where the screw thread lid is. It's leaking about 20L a day over 24 hours, so i need to get it sorted especially before winter. I have been advised by somebody at Purefreedom to buy some sealant used for bathrooms kitchens etc.... and apply some to the inner thread on the lid, then screw it back onto the tank, which will stop the leaking. Thoughts, do you think this will work? I want a permanent fix for this problem not a temporary solution. Also does anybody know exactly what sealant i will need, don't want to buy the wrong type, yes i have done that before ;)
Cheers Josh

I'd always try to use PTFE tape first (it's a big thread so you might need a reasonable amount of it):

But if necessary, jointing compound will do the job:

There'll be someone who worked for three minutes as a plumber's mate in 1974 along in a minute to tell you I'm wrong.

As above- PTFE tape or PTFE paste. Put plenty of tape wraps around the thread- at least 10 wraps.

I worked as a plumber's mate in 1974 (when I was five-years-old) and I can tell you that Perfect Windows is wrong.
Actually, no, I'd use PTFE tape too. Just wind loads of it on and screw it in.
It's no big deal and it will be a permanent fix.

Empty it first.

A lid at the bottom of the tank?

Thanks for the replies, i tried PTFE Tape, that was just a disaster, went and bought some PTFE Paste from Screwfix and that so far has seemed to work, will wait to see when the tank is nearly full whether it leaks or not!

Tape is only any good if you can get plenty of good, tight wraps around the thread. Some threads though are in positions which don't allow this- so this is where the paste comes in as it can be applied just by a finger.

Hi
Try roof mastic ideal for wet areas.

Filled tank up full the other day, still no leaking, paste worked a treat, will use this again in the future, much easier too apply than PTFE Tape, it was too difficult given the thread on the lid, it just wasn't sufficient.
