Title: The biggest misnomer in window cleaning
Post by: slap bash on August 07, 2016, 03:01:38 pm
As the heading says what were you told about the window clean industry or service which you have found having so substance at all.
The one that springs to mind with me is only using a small amount of water to rinse glass. The better the flow the better the glass will be clean. This I found true when using a larger delivery pump and putting more water in the glass.

Yet many clean using a low flow with great success, when it come to wfp we all adapt a method/ routine that keeps us
happy and will claim that its the only or best way of doing the job.
For instance I have never encountered anything yet that an Xtreme brush cant handle easily or as well as any other brush so
cant understand why anybody would want to use anything heavier, that doesn't make me right it just means it works for me.
A high flow works for you because it gives you the feeling of doing a better job, others will use hot, chemicals or a heavy brush to give them that same feeling.

I use a combination of things that give me, my customers and my bank balance that feeling.

I think Sean has it spot on.
I've got to be honest, I've been wfp for nearly nine years and one of the things I learned recently is that I can do an excellent job with a lot less water than I was using on maintenance cleans. I used to run with my flow control flat out on everything and I've got got at least one mate who still does. However, I now often run my kit at only 40% on maintenance work and still get an excellent finish.

The next thing I got from that Poles and blades chap is putting a drop of soap in a bucket of water for trad. He said"put in enough so the soap on the glass does not sag and you will have much less detailing to do " I HAVE FOUND THIS SOUND ADVICE"    As I don't even use a bucket anymore only a mop and a spray bottle and use the same four microfiber cloth and wash they once a month. Where I used many a day when trad. So `it`s more soap not less.

Why I say more water is I never rinse on glass of off only BRUSH once across the top up and down once and move on to the next window.  AND NEVER HAVE A COMEBACK,VERY QUICK.
BUT AS YOU MIGHT GATHER I DON`T RUN WITH THE HEARD.

I prefer to rinse on the glass. I cut across top line a couple of times, then about in inch down, do the up n down strokes cleaning. Then the second pass is same and that equals my rinse. I have my digi control on flow rate 40, but i also use 4 jets on my brush. Never had a problem with this approach.
I used to have a much slower flow and rinsed more. But i thought i would try adding some more jets, and needed to increase the flow for equal spraying and never looked back. Its little tweeks like this can shave time off your house cleans.

Embroidered polo shirts and unger pouches are all very  well but make you no more proffessional than the next guy.  ;)

Didnt say it did make me more professional than the next guy  ::)roll
Besides, this thread is nothing to do with that, seams like so many dont agree with my opinion on the thread "what do you think of with term being professional"
But thats ok, as i dont agree with so many others as well, so it balances itself out.
 :)

However, back on track, i personally find for me 4 jets work ok. Oh and for record, i dont wear a pouch now on wfp, as theres no need obviously  :P   :)

Chill out, its not about you and was in response to the above question, a bit of fun really and yes a claim  I have found to have no substance  :)

This thread is about what you were told to do in window clean and you find the opposite  has worked for you.  E G 18" squeegees clean quicker due to their longer length. But you find a shorter 14 "covers all your needs as you can maneuver it better.

Another one I was told is a thinner pole hose will  preventing the water flow I found a bigger diameter hose or thinner made no difference to the flow. But a fan jet reduced the flow  of water on the glass made quite a bit, compared to a straight jet. There is no right or wrong.  It`s an opinion.

Ok , the biggest misnomer imo would be the necessity for 000 ppm and the claims of the cleaning power of pure water - and the way it absorbs dirt in its attempt to return to its natural state. Obviously the reason why so many use tfr, ubik, virosol and bleach etc on first cleans and additives such as vision. I'm not saying water should not be purified but no longer get hung up on 000 ppm especially if it  removes the need for di polishing or cuts resin costs significantly. An acceptable level of purity is only needed to prevent hard water staining and spotting. With good technique the latter should not occur anyhow.

I haven't seen a misnomer yet.
Perhaps the word 'misnomer' in the thread title is misnomer.

The main misnomer I have found is don't listen to anyone especially suppliers trying to flog you stuff as most will talk b******s to get you to buy the latest and so say best products.    ;D ;D

You wont pick up large estate properties by knocking on the doors. That is a load of b******s.

I've never had the need to go knocking doors myself. What others do is up to them as is no concern of mine.
They say a good business will grow organically through recommendations without the need for door knocking.

A misnomer is a wrong or inaccurate name for something.
Like Sealskinz; they are not made out of Seal skin.
But looking at his dial you might think otherwise.

A misnomer may also be simply a word or phrase that is used incorrectly or misleadingly.

Door knocking = Cold calling is harassing people by some  ;D
Put it another way how many cold callers at your door do you actually buy from?

It's a wrong or inaccurate NAME for something. Hence the 'nom' in misnomer.

"i dont want to go WFP cos my customers wont like it and ill lose loads of work"

"do your best work at the start of the week"(just clean it in round order A-Z)

"i dont work in the rain cos customers dont like it and i risk getting sacked"(just do it!)

I don't think that's fair, why should Aaron A Aardvark gets his windows cleaned before Zytaveon Zuraw ?

Reinforced microbore hose, non kink!!

Is it just me where the hose kinks and then gets caught under gates, car tyres and corners?!!

Same for me.

I now use wider pencil jets and run my pump nearly flat out.

My speed has increased as a result, and only marginally use more water Too.

In my opinion a wfp operator should not be trying to save water by turning the flow rate down. Your doing yourself a dis service. Just buy a bigger payload van and carry more water.
