Title: Weekend working
Post by: sunshine windows on August 07, 2016, 11:34:23 am
Loads of posts on Facebook with guys working Saturday and Sunday.

I completely get this, if it's a contracted commercial job (not that I'd do it) but why on earth would you want to work weekends in a job that is so easy to make money Monday-Friday?

Depends on your workload and if you have anything planned at the weekend. I worked half a day yesterday starting at seven. Well in excess of £200. I could have wasted my morning on here or watching crap TV. First job was a big commercial clean that has to be done at the weekend. Generally I try to keep the weekend clear.

Don't get it either. One of the positives of being self employed for me was that I'd be able to earn my crust in less than a week.

I often work over the weekend then may take the rest of the week off.
All depends what the jobs are as I'm not just taking about cleaning windows.

I'll do the odd Saturday morning on some offices I do, purely because the car park is empty and I can do the jobs in half the time.

Do the odd Saturday and skip the odd Monday, as long as your not having to do a six or seven day week just to get by
then who cares.

I get it, if you're a sad lonely old sod with no one else to talk to.

Weekends are family time and time spent doing something for yourselves.

Easy to say when you've got a few vans on the road and other people are earning your wage for you  ::)roll

The great advantage of being self employed it give you the choice when you want to work and when you don't to suite your family commitments. It's nothing to do about being a lonely old sod you cheeky beggar  ;D ;D

Anyhow just wait until you’re a grandparent yourself like me and when the grandchildren get on yer nerves you can always hand them back to their parents. Oh the joys of getting old  :D

I was already earning plenty before taking the franchise route. I'm actually clearing a lot less now than I was before.

Also I'd never expect any of my franchisees to work the weekends, infact I actively discourage it.

Work mon -fri on windows if I have a day off due to weather or illness then catch up on sat morning or do a gutter job . Yes I do value my family time that's why I work 4 weeks then have a week off in caravan and soon hopefully will be in position to work 3 weeks the 2 weeks off .

different lifestyles?other commitments?really bad weather getting them behind schedule?

the beauty is you can do what you want, when you want in this game to a certain degree.

i very rarely work weekends anymore but i do work the odd saturday if im behind schedule sometimes, usually in the winter months.

some of us havent got much of a family and dont want anymore "family" time anyway.more time with our latest girlfriend/very *friendly* person/mistress maybe. :D

I know from experience being a workaholic will catch up with you health wise one day.
As you get older you will soon realise time is way too short so enjoy the time you have with your loved ones while you can.

At least take a blooming holiday would be a good start  ???

If you are having to work 6 or 7 days to earn more money then you need to have a serious look at your business and work out how you can earn that money in 5 days. Employing maye upping prices or go g into a new area of work.

I work mon-Fri.  I may work the odd weekend if I was offered some nice coin but u would deco have a couple of days off the following week instead.

For some it's not all about the money as they just love to be out working all hours godsend.

I have always worked 7 days, even in school worked at a farm at the weekends and milk round in the week  and run a garage serving petrol on the odd day off from school I used to wave at my mates going past in the afternoon😛 On the bus...
Also used too work nights in the army in a bakery down the road loved it..
Done me no harm I look 10 years younger than people my age and they have been sat on there arse  for years lol

And some say ' stop looking down your nose at people who work weekends just because you don't have to'
I don't see how this is an issue for you when other people work

So that's me out then Shrek  ;D

There is a big difference to being flexible than being a workaholic working 7 days a week just because you love working.
Now to me that seems very odd as most will only work if they have to not because they love working  ???

I never look down upon anyone Shrek. If people want or need to work the weekends crack on. I just don't get it! Especially as loads rave about how much money they earn anyway.

Yes, but they can earn even more if they wish. Cash in hand too.

I worked in the print industry for thirty years - you wouldn't believe the hours worked. Some of the guys were fighting to get in and already paying supertax!

I think by calling people who work weekends sad and lonely is a bit harsh that's all. Looking at some comments from people explaining themselves to you why they have to work weekends as if they're doing wrong. If someone wants to work 6 or 7 days a week, surely that's better than being a drain on the system , they might just be building a better life for themselves/ their families by paying their mortgage off or whatever

Saw smurf today and he doesn't look too bad for his age to be fair 😂

Same here I worked in the CNC machining game and the hours I worked where unbelievable, even done permanent nightshift
for the better hourly rate, thing is I would be lying if I said it was for anything other than greed both for money and materialistic
possessions, it certainly wasn't for the love of work.

And some folk have "past lives" to sort out financially.

Ex-wives, kids by more than one woman to support, money mismanagement, "habits" ...

So where as boring old (and lucky) me can get by on a modest screw, others might need the wrong side of a grand a week to keep up.

I think I'm turning into my late father as he always uses to say how do the young ones cope these days.
It was bloody hard going but nowhere as bad as it is today so I can understand why most people need to work all hours godsend.
