Title: Question on waste from RO
Post by: 8weekly on July 26, 2016, 08:34:50 pm
We're moving into a unit in a few days. Currently I use a Merlin, but I'm wondering if I'm better off upgrading to a 4040 as I will be going onto a water meter. Is there significantly less waste with a 4040?

Yes my merlin was 7 to 1 waste and 8 hours to fill, now 1.5 hours with a booster pump and 2 to 1 waste. Ppm of 9 which is brilliant.

Before you do that fit an inline tap into the waste of your Merlin to throttle the waste back a bit; (don't shut it completely). My mate has an old Merlin and that is what he has done. He is working with a waste to pure ratio of 1 to 1. His r/o is much more efficient. He has also fitted a sediment prefilter pre r/o. As I mentioned on another post, we can have water heavily laden with sediment sometimes.
