Title: guttervac extention leads on hot days
Post by: Smurf on July 19, 2016, 11:48:43 pm
My guttervac extension reel kept tripping out prematurely today after 5-10 mins due to the hot weather being in direct sunlight.

I bet you can't guess what I did to cool the black extension lead down?  ;D

Don't be silly as that would keep tripping out too surely?

I just so happened to have a hosepipe handy and though hmmm that should do the trick so cooled all the extention lead down unwound from the reel with cold tap water. In the proccess the cold water also cooled down the roasting concreate pavers  it was  on too... Worked a treat  ;D ;D

I'm also use to working in the rain by the way so never had any issues with the reel tripping out because it got too hot before.

Good quality extension leads are normally fine if they are completely unreeled!  I find only cheapo crappy ones do that

The amount of water I was drinking during the day I could have but it would not have been cold  ;D

We like these for everyday use if we are not using anything too demanding.

If we are using Levighetors or Heavy Duty Wet Vacs for example both inside or  outside because they are 4HP we have made our own out of 2.5mm Heavy Duty Artic Cable.

I have a few masterplug reels but all have thermal cutout on them. Today as was not so hot outside the same masterplug reel I was using yesterday worked just fine.

I have loads of  32 amp 110 volt cables knocking about as I don't use 110  v 4200 watt wetvacs anymore.
My question is can they be re-used for 240 volt instead by swapping over to 16 amp conectors instead?
