So my di is shot and recently realised my 150gpd membranes are shot. Used to run at 009 out when tap was near 300. Now with pump on it runs now at 019.
I run thru di and into a black ibc 1000ltr tank in garden. Only a small hole in tank to check on things etc, but this is covered with a lid. So my tds of water in tank is 014.
I use 2 sediment pre filters, carbon filter and then a fibredyne (? Cant recall what its called at mo (heads a shed))
My confusions i had to lift my 150lpm transfer pump and it felt slimey. Looked at my hands and they were slimed. My confusion is why and why lol. Any ideas

I could answer all of this for you Nathan, but as your always so nice to me on here I wont.

1,is your tank clear 2,is it out in garden if so it's algae caused by sunlight. I had this problem so I bought a shed and a black ibc had it five years now without a problem

Is there any slime in the 4040 housing and prefilter housings? If so, you have biological contamination and you need to fix it or new membranes will go south very quickly.
If it is slimy in the 4040, solution at: http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=175665.msg1483617#msg1483617
If not, I'm not sure what it could be.

One thing the ro/di process does apart from removing some dissolvable solids is gets rid of the additives in tap water that makes it safe to drink. Therefore you will still get slim/algae and wiggly things growing in filters, ro, di and holding tanks as the ro/di process does not filter out bacteria & micro organisms bud. Transparent tanks and filter housings are more affected due to sunlight that aids the growth but all the same black tanks still need sterilising once in a while too.

For everyone else, cheers for the advice.
It is a black ibc tank that i have outside, and under some shelter. Which i thought would help prevent algae etc from growing inside. I purchased one that was a manufacturer's reclean standards (of ibc tanks).
My ro i keep indoors and feed into tank thats just beneath the window, outside.
Im due to change the pre filters so will check all containers etc then. Thanks.
I do flush my system for about 10 miNs before i use if every time. I thought that would clean/prevent any internal build up of germs etc?

The challenge is that we're taking the chlorine out of the water before the RO membrane. In the absence of chlorine you only need a few bacteria to lodge in the pipes and they'll start to breed and form the biofilm that wrecks the membrane. Flushing won't help once they are in there and lodged, AFAIK.
There are chemicals available to clear biological contamination but they seem to be in £500 quantities as far as I could ever find on the web.
MY IBC's back and not at all slimy, which is what made me suspect you might have a problem.
