If he is its his turn to get the pints in ;D

Sounds to me to be rogue travellers more like after a quick buck knocking doors as we all know they deliberately prey on old folk :o

It might have been a large house and They might have thrown in a free window clean

That thought did cross my mind too as could have been a mansion for all we know.

Never hear anybody complain about that company that charges 3 grand for a conservatory 'valet' . Just because they were 83 , doesn't mean it wasn't a large job
-
I've charged more than that for a gutter clean.
-
Think I need to move area, as if I quoted prices like that here I'd probs be arrested ;D
-
It can also work the other way around too as you never hear of people complaining that they had a good job done on the cheap.
Maybe old cleaners should report them to the fuzz too as they obviously have been taken for a ride ;D ;D
The point I'm trying to make is firms or sole traders are in business to make a good profit but at the same time not blatantly rip people off like scallywag travellers and more to the point not be taken for a ride themselves.
-
if you go to quote a job and it looks like a real pain the ass , awkward access etc etc and you can't be arsed doing unless it's for decent money .... And they accept , are you in the wrong?
The owners have the right to say no and get someone else surely

Indeed but as long as you are not at traveller scallywag type that can use all sorts of tricks to take advantage of old folk.
-
Which law says you can't overcharge people?

Which law says you can't overcharge people?
Exactly there is no law to stop people charging what they want and as long as the customer is in sound mind accepts
the quote and is happy with the quality of work then they have nothing to complain about.
That said I get the feeling there's more to this story than a customer being unhappy with an agreed price.
-
Well said Sean , the same could be thought about me cleaning a house for £15 when somebody else will happily do it for £5- am I ripping them off ? no , I just charge what I want to earn .
I'd quite happily charge more and work less
-
End of the day if you quoted a price and they accepted and paid happily how is it rogue trading?
they have a choice, now if they wernt sound of mind.. then ok but what if you quoted a more "normal" price say £50, and they agree, is that rogue trading?
where do we draw the line?
-
Only a rogue trader when you start making up work than needs doing. Lying to the customer to increase the work/price
Giving a price for work due or what the customer wants isn't rogue trading.

88 year old pensioner.
I don't care what might be mitigating circumstances, some people have no conscience.

It's doubtful the police would be posting this kind of things on FB if it wasn't dodgy. Probably about £50 worth.
I had an old dear once, she was clearly not 100%. We charged her £7 for her windows, she made out a cheque for £7000. I managed to get the contact details for her daughter off her. It turned out she only lived down the road. I gave the cheque to her. I didn't want to just bin it and bugger off, the poor woman had got herself in a bit of a state when I'd tried to explain to her she'd given me too much.
It's sad that there are people out there who'd take advantage of the vulnerable.

That's extremely decent of you.
(If you could send me her name and address I'll pop round tomorrow.)

It was many years ago now (christ, I reckon it must've been around 2002). I very much doubt she's still knocking about to be honest. She was gone from the house by the next month, I assume she was carted off to a care home.

Really, it wasn't something that I felt I had any choice in (not for more than half a second anyway). I'd bet 99.99% would do the same or similar.

I am 68 years old and no one is jumping up and down when I am not paid for a job.
