Title: Best pole with long lasting clamps
Post by: Kevin H on July 04, 2016, 02:48:51 pm
Ok I'm sure it's been asked what is the best hybrid pole with long lasting clamps.
I been using gardener poles for years now but like all poles the clamps seem let you down in time I was thinking of trying ionic glyder  or maybe unger  pole any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Kev

Ive trad for 14yrs and helped a friend when he moved over onto wfp, did a yr with him on wfp. Best thing i did as i was strongly apposed to wfp as i took alot of work from chaps doing a poor job etc on it and they prefered trad methods. But the results when done properly were good and the trouble it saved, esp on leaded glass it was a god send. So it sold wfp to me.
Anyways my friend had a fibre glass pole and talk about wobbly and flexing! Thankfully due to him i learnt alot and also researched a heck of alot and one thing was clear, no way was i going fibre glass!!
Stupidly i went 1 pole hybrid and one carbon fibre. The hybrid was because when not in use was only 5ft, whichbi liked idea of. But boy does that flex as well, not as bad but still all my energy is going into controlling pole. Used it once within yr of owning it!!  Its worth saving and spending that little more on a carbon pole, the difference is amazing!
Sadly i think the clamp problem is universal. One method is to build pole back up with silicone spray, ive done this and sadly needs doing relatively often pending usage.  But then it only takes minutes on a wknd to do.

The clamp on any pole is going to wear as do the pole sections themselves due to friction and constant contact with moving parts. Gardiner have done a good job of reducing the effect of this wear with their clamps. I've used an SLX18 as my main pole for two years and it's been a solid performer and is still going strong. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Thanks  for the response it's  seems like I'm going to stay with gardiner then I thought about the ionics glyder pole  but if it's a case were the clamps just wear on all brands its best the devil you know.

Cheers Kev

They don't have to:

The moment a clamp start to move even slightly, adjust it so it doesn't.  Never tolerate it, even for a few minutes.  It's only a moving clamp that can wear the clamping points.

Fully extend the pole and wash out inside with water every single week.
