Title: vans
Post by: C.C.S. on May 15, 2016, 06:43:20 pm
Hi all.I'm looking to upgrade my van and was looking to get a fiat scudo, citroen dispatch or peugeot expert. But I've also looked at fiat doblo maxi(i have the normal doblo and has been very good for the last 6 years i had it) and also the vauxhall combo the lwb one and noticed that the payload is bigger at the fiat doblo then peugeot by around 40kg and also the load space pretty much the same with the fiat being actually wider .So I can't make my mind up .I'm leaning more towards the fiat doblo maxi as it's a bit cheaper and also had good experience with the one I have.
So for you who have the vans above what do you think?

I'm a big fan of the scudo/dispatch/expert vans two side loading doors, I'm on my second one. Been good workhorses.
I do mostly local work and very little motorway so couldn't say about it's performance but in pulls along fine

I have a fiat doblo maxi, (my second one) excellent vans, 1005kg payload twin side doors mine is 180bhp so pulls like an absolute train, does everything I need it to, I wouldnt go next size up to a scudo there is no need

The new Vauxhall Combi is the same van as the Doblo.

I have the fiat scudo 1.6hdi swb payload 1000kg

Love it, twin dooors, plenty enough payload, drives really nice, plenty of storage space in the cab.

I would get the 2.0 hdi if you can  as when fully loaded this is a bit underpowered but its not that bad.

yes it is the 2.0 multijet 135bhp but I have had it remapped and it made 182bhp and 277lbft on a dyno

I usually get around 425-500 miles per tank 55-60 litres, it has a 600l custom baffled tank but I only use 3-400 litres per day, it has the extra capacity when needed eg large school or commercial job I fill it to the full 600l

They appear great for the size, certainly good for a single operator, but I'd always go to the next size up as it gives more flexibility

Each to their own but jeezo, that has to be the ugliest van I've ever seen!

I've no problem with the yellow, it looks like it's got the under bite of an inbred, slack jawed yokel.

But at least from that model (2006) on the body is fully galvanised dipped. The previous variants (Ducato, Relay and Boxer weren't).

Once rust starts its a pain keeping on top of it.

In our business it matters not what the van looks like, its how reliable it is that counts IMHO. My son agrees with you Soupy, as he thinks they look hideous and would never be seen dead driving one. We debate this just about every day.

I'm on the look out for a clean used one at an affordable price that will last me until death do us part.  :)

I've got a 2005 Boxer that I've had for 5 years and never put a foot wrong.  (I've had a new side door since, so no more dents,)

Yes, they are, shall we say have an "interesting" look, which I do quite like, unlike the new ford transit which I detest !!  However I don't buy on looks alone and this 2013 model with one owner cost a shade over £7k
Which I thought was a pretty good price.

I have to say the cab has bags of room in it but the seating and pedal arrangement takes a little getting used too.

63k

The boxer/relay/Ducato seem to be around 1,500 to 2k cheaper than the equivalent transit, certainly if your comparing lower mileage examples.

Nice custom btw!

I like my jumbo transit as well

I've just been today and checked 2 vans with my tape measure.
vw caddy ans peugeot expert. the load length is bigger in the vw 2.25 meters vs 2m in the expert.the expert is  a bit wider between the wheel arches but only by 5cm. you wouldn't think by looking at them .Anyway i'm also going to check a vauxhall combo lwb wich should be wider by the look of it and I'll make my decision

I have the vauxhall combo lwb its a rebadged fiat doblo .
it's a nice van and I can get the poles in with out going through the bulk head the only thing I do't like is the gear box no problems with it I just don't like the way it feels
