Title: Advice on Poles
Post by: The Fox on May 19, 2006, 08:10:19 pm
I am going back to working from my car and want a pole that can be put in the car, so I am after a pole with 4 foot sections. Also a pole than can reach 2nd floor windows every so often.

It will have to be an aluminium pole because I do not fancy using a five or six section fibre glass pole all the time.

With an aluminium pole I can add extra sections easily when cleaning 2nd floor windows then remove them for normal use.

This has left me with 3 choices

1.   Omnipole powerpole: great pole but very expensive, worth every penny if you plan on using with a power washer and heavy use.

2.   Tucker pole: very similar to the powerpole, the only problem that I can see is the clamping system. How quick is it to adjust height when cleaning domestics.

3.   Window cleaning pole 5 x 4 foot section alloy pole extends to 20 foot, folds down to just over 4 foot, and sections can be added and taken away when needed. Also adjustable goose neck for domestic

My favorite is number 3 for the amount of use that it will be getting and the price only problem that I can see is the pole was not designed for WFP

i would highly recommend a powerpole i have a 24ft powerpole 6x4ft sections i only use this one pole for ground floor up to 3rd story if you want you can take sections off to make it lighter. though i just use it as is saves sections of an expensive pole rolling around the back of the van!! i used to use an glass fibre pole though found this did not last and was not impressed having glass fibre in my hands!

Hi just a thought what about the new pole from skypoles I think it is, very light carbon comes in sections that screw together about three turns you just buy extra sections if you get a job a floor higher than you have now

hi i have just ordered the new facelift pole 24ft and can be taken apart easily, i will be using it as a 18ft pole mostly but will be putting the extra section in for 3 story houses , also i am going to extend it buy buying an extra section to make it a 30ft pole if needed

i have felt it and it is really light and the poles are not that thick in diameter

Choice 4. Next generation. 4-6ft sections as high as you want to make and very very extremely light.

I would love to use a Van But

My wife is disabled and has had a bad time over the last couple of months, the result is I can not put enough time into window cleaning. I don’t want to stop totally, so I will run it as a part time business. This way I will not have to go back onto income support. So basically I will not be able to run a second vehicle.

We have a Renault Scenic from motability and I have permission to use this for window cleaning. I will break even but make some money from mileage allowance.

I will only be cleaning windows so I can get away from the stress of looking after my wife; I suppose you can call it respite. I enjoy the job anyway.

I will still be insured and legal just not paying any tax with a very small customer base.

I WANT TO POINT OUT I WILL NOT BE A DOLE CHEAT

I dont think anyone will judge you and call you a dole cheat.
You should be proud and hold your head up high.
You are trying your best to care for a loved one and earn a living as well.
I am faced with the same problem since my wife died.
I have two kids to look after.
They are more impotant than high earnings.
So my business is downsized for a few years while i look after them. And i obviously claim tax credit 2 help me out.
I dont feel guilty for this. I have paid my taxes in the past and i will again in the future when i have more time to work full time. im sure your the same.  good luck i know it can be hard some days.

Thank you for your comments as you know life can be very hard; you just have to make the best out of a bad situation.

I hope everything works out for you and your children in the future.
