doing my own drive and decking this week. Was going to ask some of my customers if they wanted there's done. Phoned a farm suppliers to day for the price of hypo. Said I wanted it for drive cleaning he diddent have it but gave me a supplier that did. He told me to be careful where using it as some one was caught letting the run off going down drain and copped a £15000 fine.

Environmental Safety Assessment
Sodium hypochlorite is very toxic to aquatic organisms. However, as the substance is extremely reactive, any sodium hypochlorite which is poured into the drain from household use will react with organic matter and will be removed before reaching the environment. Sodium hypochlorite is often added deliberately to drinking water supplies and swimming pools for disinfection and destruction of almost all harmful microorganisms. Industrial use sometimes results in the discharge of weak solutions of sodium hypochlorite directly into the environment, which is rapidly removed by reaction. The substance can be handled at all stages of manufacture and use with a minimal impact on the aquatic environment. Additionally, the substance is not bioaccumulative, is rapidly degraded and will not persist in the environment.
Weak solutions are sometimes released directly into the environment from industrial sites such as power plants, but these levels have been assessed as being safe and not causing damage to the wider environment, due to the rapid reaction of the substance with organic matter.
Conclusion
Sodium hypochlorite is a well understood substance that is useful for many practical applications, stretching from the home to industry. Use of this hazardous substance has been shown to be safe by careful use and following provided instructions.

Was he wearing a yellow hard hat and have a gutter vac pole in his hand ?

And pouring it down a rainwater grid will get you a fine.
-
All he said was he was caught letting it go down a drain and was fined £15000
-
The only fine I can find was a swimming pool used an acid chemical instead of hypo in the pool to create a poisonous gas - that was 20k
You'd be a right divvy to pour it down a rainwater drain....
Got some links mr Scott ??

Why is this sort of story always a 'friend of a friend' or a 'mates brothers' or 'a guy down the pub'
It's never 1st hand information, I think it's scare tactics.
When it happens to me or I read it in the paper then I will believe it ..........until then it's waffle

I do agree, I think it's the age we live in, the weather people now give names to 'storms' to hype up a bit wind and rain that really is no worse than standard weather....
You see it on lots f threads unfortunately...

Try operating a wheelie bin cleaning business without a licence and/or none compliance with the type of system should be used and how the wasted is disposed of then see if you get fined or not. ;D
Regards to using hypo I'm not aware off anyone yet being fined for allowing the water runoff to go down a drain.
That goes for pressure washing drives, paving etc water runoff too.
