In the last week, I swapped some work with another window cleaner, I gave him areas I only have a few in, in exchange for some work more local to me.
Over the weekend I went to check on the 20 houses I took over from him, only to find that only 5 of them actually existed, so today my son made contact with him to say deal was off and we were taking back the work we swapped with him.
Now I live in Fife, Scotland and due to nearly every window cleaner wanting every job going, prices have always been low. I clean a lot of council estates where I am lucky to get £5 or £6, so why has this idiot decided,to reduce the prices of the work I swapped him to £3.50 when he was guaranteed the £5/£6? But it gets worse ... I also included 2 pubs in the swap, one was £20 in and out, the other £30 in and out... He reduced the price to £10 each that's inside and out...now I have taken it back I have the hassle of trying to get this work back to my prices.
I also cleaned this work a few days before it was swapped these idiots then went and cleaned it a week later and reduced the prices on that clean, my phone has been going ding dong since.
First time I have swapped work never again >:(

Sounds like you've been done! I hope you manage to get something sorted.
How do you manage to survive on £20 to clean a pub inside and out? Surely you're earning less than the minimum wage at this rate (unless it's a very small pub).

Obviously he's known you would be looking the work back so he's done a crafty undercut to try and keep it.

Sounds like that chap who dropped all your prices is not agreat business man to me. He is probably so use to undercutiing everyone else he probably thought it was a good ideal to now undercut himself. ;D
Either that suffers from some sort of mental issues and is just raving bonkers. :P

I will see how this works out tonight, the lad says the work is legit, he knows the houses not the numbers and just wrote numbers down of the top of his head, so He is going to come and show me round them tonight ...I will knock each door and confirm in front of him, should know within a few doors if everything is legit.

The £20 pub only has 6 windows no larger than 3x3. I do a few extras for the owner such as trophy cabinet, mirrors, bandit screen, but I am never there more than 30 mins, so it's a good price as far as I am concerned.
The £30 pub is owned by the same person, more windows but same deal and based on pricing of first pub, I kept the rate the same based on £40 an hour.
The lad has just cut them to a tenner each, costing himself £30 a clean ... There was no need to reduce the price ... I just know these lads are going to cut corners to make it pay.

He must be raving bonkers, i have just noticed on his Facebook page, that he is offering 30% of his already cheap prices, to folk who use his service. Think I will educate him on pricing a bit better if he shows up to take me round this non existing work.
-
I'd be doing a bit more than educating him.
-
Still no further forward, as he never showed up at agreed time, he said his partner would show me them, and vice versa...spoke to him on messenger, now getting no response despite knowing he has read my messages. >:(
Let's see how he responds when I start questioning him every time he posts on his Facebook ad looking for customers ;D

If youve any sort of raport with your ex custies surely you can explain whats happened and they would be sympathetic and tell this guy to feck off, if they all really are that low that all they want is the cheapest price then good ridance

It costs me £300 per week 52 weeks of the year to run my business, overheads, tax ni etc .
How the hell can anyone charge any less than £10 per small house and afford to live is beyond me
