Anyone fitted one before
My 57 plate van , 90,000 miles has been full serviced , all filters changed and oil , air and fuel . Plus fuel additives .
But does suffer with thick black smoke when accelerating quickly .
Runs fine
Economical
But also on switching off it rattles a little .
The bloke who mot it said it can be cleaned and blanked off . But says better to buy .
Most ive ordered one , about £110 genuine ford part .
-
rattel could be timing chain if it has one ?
-
had the same with a transit I think when you have a new egr fitted it has to be re configurated I may be wrong though
-
If its fairly easy why didn't you get a quote from garage how much to supply and fit . I use a small independent garage what he charges its not worth me getting my hands dirty . If Fords send wrong one its not your problem .
-
My dad is 70 nearly and was a full time self employed mechanic , but suffers from MS now .
But his mate owns a MOT station and he advised me to get one .
His labour etc is goodwill to me at good prices .
I was just wondering if persons has got one replaced .
Thanks guys done good advice .

Had mine blanked off and van is much better since. Used to smoke like mad when you put your foot down- no smoke at all now. Blanking plate and gaskets were £9 from ebay.
-
the rattle, clicking noise your hearing is the egr trying to do a self clean, a pile of poo really and yes you could strip and clean it but will be a matter of time before its crackered again, you could simply replace and very easy to do on the transits, literally 4 bolts or buy a couple of blanking plates block it off and either put up with the light on the dash untill next mot time when it will be a fail or get a remapper to map it out and never have any issues again!!
its good to nail the crap out of modern day diesels too occasionally to keep them running right ;)
-
Cheers , he said that about the noise . I'll get it fitted Friday

MOD Note:- to the CIU member - and anyone else who may be interested - who reported this thread as being in the wrong place.
As it is to do with a van used for window cleaning and as most of the forum users have a window cleaning van and may find the information helpful I have left this thread where it is.
-
People moan about that kind of thing on here? How sad is that?
-
Sorry Granville Gold , like you say I was just asking for advice reference my Window cleaning van ..
Nice one it remains listed thread
Thanks

Just to change the subject to annoy them a little more I was listening to Radio 4 today about the living wage, this being £7.20 a hour now. I tell you what I don't know how some people live these days the amount they earn. Its atrocious.
£7.20 an hour, thats £280 a week. Feckin' 'eck I do a good part of that before din dins. Did you know the minimum wage for a 16 year old is £3.87 an hour !! You could employ an oik to reel your hose in and wipe the cills off it'd be worth it just for that.
-
Shame wages . Some folk warming a low wage yet they do the hardest jobs and are non stop .
The workers in macdonalds are non stop , I feel sorry for the Domino blokes that are stood on street corners with a sandwich board for 10 hours a day .
Respect that their working .
It's the benefit cheats and persons not working that are a problem .
Not easy sometimes ...

Someone reported this for being in the wrong place? ::)roll
Too much time on there hands.

Could be you ........ Lol

Could be you ........ Lol
And you'll never know....... ;D

Kempy have you had this fitted yet ?

I bought an egr valve for my vivaro it never got fitted it's still in the mechanics workshop that was over a year ago

EML isn't an mot fail according to my local mot tester as mine passed with it on. You can buy a cheap obd2 device to remove the Light anyway - but have to say that blanking the egr off was the best thing I have done to my 2010 dispatch 1.6 hdi.
-
Do you have to clean the egr before you blank it .got a transit connect 2007 not sure if it's a euro 3 or 4 ?
-
Well the new EGR has been fitted a week now and it's now a lot better on the black smoke on acceleration .
The old one was clogged up and dirty .
Impressed it's done its job .

Makes no sense what you say. EGR valves work or they don't. If they don't they send an engine management warning light on. EGR is exhaust gas recurcilation, it just opens and closes, and thats it. Its a small object. It cannot inject anything to make your exhaust gases dirtier or cleaner. It just opens and closes, and if it doesn't work the engine management system detects it. You've been had off.
-
The valve opens to allow a percentage of exhaust gas to be recycled and mixed with clean air. In theory this is OK (ish) untill the valve and associated pipework get coked and oiled up resulting in your engine then not only been fed recycled exhaust gas but extra dirty exhaust gas- hence the excessive black smoke. It ends up coking everything up. Blanked off, the engine will run better and cleaner.
-
Just blank it or clean it then blank it
-
Its my understanding that the inlet manifold will have to be removed and cleaned, on any vehicle with EGR probs. Then, if the valve functions correctly, "some" models, makes, years can just be blanked off. Others will throw up an engine management light if the EGR is blanked off and will need the ECU programming. Research is needed for your particular vehicle.

It's doing fine is the van at the moment now the EGR has been fitted .
However I filled up with £40 JET fuel and its smoking a lot again ..
I'm always going to use SHELL if I can . Even on Sainsburys it didn't do that .
Maybe this JET fuel station which is probably independent uses CRAP cheap stuff .
Never going to that one again

Nothing to do with the fuel mate, you're engine internals are coked up by the egr and unless you blank it off you will just continue this process.
