Title: What would you charge (with video)?
Post by: supernova77 on March 24, 2016, 06:31:25 pm
Hi All

If you have a spare minute please view this riveting video...

https://youtu.be/7M_sgK1UO_c

The customer wants all decking and paving cleaned.

I'm still finding my feet in the pressure washing world...

What would you charge?

Thanks,
Andy  :)

When I quote jobs up I say with a sharp intake of breath  "Well it's not going to be cheap"  ;D

Would have been better to have seen that paving & decking when dry as you can't really see the condition they are in from that vid.

It's prob a days work, for 1 person but would take 2, and I see there's a tap for u to connect upto, all looks straight forward, except for on the far side there's a set of stairs is there drainage at the bottom.

A day  :o

What sort of clean do they require ?
What is the wood - hard wood, soft wood ?
Any previous decking oil or worse wood stain on it ??

What's the actual sizes of the decking - the paths are no problem around £120

For the decking you need to know everything and find out if they want it re oiled if it's had oil or stain on it then you need to follow a process it's not a matter of just washing it.

If you want the very best advice for decking work get in touch with Roger Oakley - he walked me through some early decking jobs - such a shame he no longer uses this forum

By no means an expert but 200 sounds very cheap to me.  I d think at least 300 for that.

The time you move all the stuff out and put it back.  Loading the machine.  Setting up.  Packing away. Cleaning it up to a good standard etc.

Nowadays you ve also got to think about the comebacks involved with working with the public.  We re living in a blame culture.  Working on someones property can open you up to hassle even with the proper insurances in place etc.

I d say bearing that in mind 200 seems pretty cheap to me.  Done a couple of pressure washing jobs so far and thats it so by no means an expert.  Some of the more experienced guys will know more.

Even £300 sounds cheap, I would  normally charge £150 to clean decking for your average 3bed semi

Andy ,
If you are a newbie to pw, then don't worry too much about the cost !
Gain the experience working on varied surfaces and build up a good portfolio of before and after examples.
As you gain the experience and get more confident with methods of cleaning your pricing will adjust accordingly
As Darren as mentioned there are different methods to cleaning decks.
Make sure you and the customer know what is expected prior to the quote

Hi Guys

Thanks for your replies and advice.

The decking is Ipe Wood - so a hardwood.

Same as in my picture then,

That's something like £50 a meter, you had better make sure you know what your doing - it's easily ruined
