Title: Painted lines on the rd
Post by: Matt. on March 21, 2016, 11:46:36 pm
Hello guys,

I have had an email with regards to cleaning the painted lines on the rd, the company want it done by the metre, there is approx 2200m ( according to there brake down )

The job is over 200 miles away so am not going for nothing, and fully intend to cover any costs, and am thinking around the £2.50 pm  marker.

Am I taking the p a little with the price, and risking not getting it, bear in mind I already know it will be a ball ache to do.

Thanks
Matt

How you going to remove it Matty ?

I've had some enquiries on this, the thermoplastic paint will require steam cleaning 120 to 130 degrees.
Or the old fashioned burner, either way I reckon it's a slow job

Search thermoplastic paint removal on google you'll find a couple of specialist sites

The jobs is in London and will be a nightmare, h&s are all over you by the minutes.

What kind of price would I be looking at Ed by the metre, as they have came to me about it and asked.

I would have thought this kind of work would be done in house with something like this?

Matty ,
What is your method to clean ?
Is the works to be done at night ?
Do you have to pay for traffic management ?

Hello Ed

I don't have to pay for trafic management as it's on a so called private site but I do have to section off each area that we will be working in, using barriers and tape, but we will have problems with general public walking through these so it's stop start, and yes there is parts that have to be done over night but overnight means 4 hours
My method of cleaning was to pressure wash using 2 machines 1 will be hot and minimal chemicals really

Under normal circumstances I would think less than £1 per metre for lines but this isn't a normal job and I have to cover costs,

There terms only permit any 1 person including travel to work 10 hours in a 24hr period so even if it was done in 1 day/night shift I would have to have 4 people minimum and that's before I start with someone manning the perimeter.

So really am asking is what's the maximum per metre I could really charge for this work

Thanks
Matt

Matt ,  i cant imagine them paying £5,500 . Appreciate you have labour , travel , accommodation ect to cover .

Either sub it to a local contractor for less money , or they will ! They possibly could get it relined for less

Thanks guys for the input

It's not so straight forward to sub out, these are ok and put work are way but FFS they are a nightmare to work for, h&s to an extreme level, and would still want us on site to manage the job.
