Title: 'Green' growth removal
Post by: Mike Halliday on February 24, 2016, 12:18:30 pm
The green you get on outside areas, we had a discussion about a few months ago but Can't find the topic.

I have a client who wants a residual chemical applying to thier patio to keep it green free through the summer months, anyone got any suggestion? One was mentioned by a supplier but some said it was a weaker dilution than others that are avalaible

Hypo the poope out of it is the quickest and cheapest option.
Unless you want to wait ages for results and put on a silly white coat that is  ;D

Hypo was what I used in  October, they called yesturday moaning it was green again and considering  what they paid me it should have stayed cleaner longer ::)roll ::)roll

I told them I would treat it again but to be truthful I've thought about it and think they are being unreasonable,  I cleaned their patio and it looked brilliant, the fact that it has turned green over winter is due to the environmental conditions  not that I didn't do my job right.....  the amount I charged is irrelevant

It's  a bit like them complaining to a car wash a month later that their car has got dirty again.

Mike, can I ask what strength of hypo did you put down as I tend to use 1-1 ration @14-15% so about 7%
I've done jobs a year ago and still looks good to this day which has supprised me. Even customers have commented how well the flags look still.

I put it down at 4-1 give it 20 minutes then go around with a bucket of neat and brush any areas not looking great.

Hypo does not have a residual effect  it cleans then 'dies'  I think a quat solution Leaves a residual killing effect to inhibit future growth

You can’t bet mother nature no matter what you put down.
Maybe try algoclear pro that’s if the customer is willing to pay for maintenance treatments without instant results.

Mike what was the patio surface ? Indian sandstone ? What you have failed at is qualifying the customer as to what they should expect and the perfect business model you have - you clean it, they pay you, it gets dirty, you clean it, they pay you, it gets dirty and so on. Nothing really has a longstanding residual if the surface is in the wrong enviromental conditions. Sealing would help but again if its in the wrong place will still go green. I had a customer say he could not understand why his perfect patio went green so quick - on closer inspection I found he laid it on DPM rather than teram  ;D

What about hypo so you get the instant results then putting algoclear pro down, providing they are willing to pay of course

Went back this morning ( at 7:30)  they were taking the Micky really it was slightly green but nothing more than I would expect after the  winter months, applied them more hypo but told them I would email them information on further treatment that may be required to give a more long term solution.

I will, send them a link to algoclear and recommend theypay me to apply this
