I was thinking today about the snooker player who could of got a break of 147 but did on purpose only get 146 potting the pink not the black.
He said that the prize money of only 10 grand it was not worth it.
He said "It's like going into a Mercedes garage and when they say that you can have the car for £3,000, you reply, 'No way, that's too cheap. I'm not buying it for that'.
If Mercedes started selling cheap cars he would not buy one.
What this to do with carpet cleaner?
How many of our customers wont deal with carpet cleaner because they are too cheap.
The 25 pounds a room cleaners.
It a mind-set its not worth it too cheap.
-
The problem is people get the customers they deserve or market for.
Some carpet cleaners will say that most people will not pay more than £25 to have their living room cleaned, but what they are really saying is.... The people they market to and clean for will not pay over £25........ There is a world of people who will pay £100 and would not consider a company who charges £25.......but they never get to clean for them........ so don't know they exist.
I never go for the cheapest eg: I always buy genuine van parts ( brakes etc) even though the garage tells me the others are just the same, they are more expensive but I believe that equates to better

I think Ronnie was proving a point he's obviously got the headlines for his actions, I don't know if the tournament was a ranking one but usually a maximum break financially is similar to the prize money of winning it.
-
Ronnie and merchant banker springs to mind......
What Ronnie did was rip off his paying public with out a second thought, bit like bait & switch, that's the only reference I can make to him and a certain type of carpet cleaner.

Agree with the above.Just shows what a egotistical prat this guy is.
I cant see where any analogy with CC comes into this
-
He would have made a bigger statement if he had taken the money and given it to charity, or passed it out to the audience.
By not taking the black he just saved a big corporation 10 grand
-
The money rolls over anyway.
He has the most 147 breaks of anyone, 10 grand is peanuts , he charges 100 grand to appear in chinese snooker clubs , that will rise now with his increased exposure, it was a smart business/PR move.

I heard a guy on the radio had put a bet on that Ronnie would get a 147 in that match. If he had got the 147, he would have been in the money.
In a way Ronnie "threw" that frame. As any and everything is betted on, this just should not be done by a professional sports person. It has far more repercussions than he would have thought of at the time.

Actually that's a very good point I wonder if the authorities such as they are are looking into bets made on that frame and match.
To say it was a good business move is just laughable, lets use a carpet cleaning analogy as this is the CC thread,
Bill and Bobs Really Deep Steam Cleaning go out and and clean Mrs Patel's lounge carpet but because they quoted low the lounge is a a metre longer than they realised, Mrs Patel is ecstatic at the cleaning, makes them tea and gives them biscuits and raving to her husband about the progress they are making.Suddenly with 1 mt left they start to pack up and start to leave....aghast she says what are you doing and Bob says , that extra metre is has not made it worth finishing unless you pay the extra.......................she snatches the biscuit backs and tells them to p**s off, she then informs every one she meets about the cowboy rip off company she has just had in, the feeling of let down is overwhelming...Bill & Bob carpet cleaning super stars smirk as they pack the van away comfortable in the knowledge that they are worth more than that.....for now!
;D Sorry rant over, the guys a twat who has lost touch with reality and who pays his wages.

Maybe the pink was the easier shot.
What did he do, pot the pink instead of the black after the last red?
Who's to say he would have gone on to get 147 at that stage.
-
with "in" game betting all the rage i would of thought a lot of guys decided to hold out for the 147 only to be let down. i'm with the majority on this, bad sportmanship by someone who has lost touch with reality. Unfortunately with the amount of money in sport, most have lost touch with reality. £10,000 would feed a village for years in some unfortunate countries.
