Are they still popular . When I was trad every one round here had em on . First thing you did when buying new ladders was get em spiked up . Just noticed lately while seeing other windies , a lot not using em .
-
ive never used em ever and never seen any window cleaners that do.are they any good?
-
I took mine off - they scratched the fascia boards.
-
I used them for around 16 years when trad. I occasionally use an ally pointer ladder now which does not have them.
-
Never put em on pointers . But they were invaluable on double ladders . Put em in cracks in the flags dig em in the turf rock solid they were . Hardly ever needed the ladder footing . Just wondered what the new type of tradder was using nowadays .

They do a great job on decking!
All those spike holes everywhere. The customers love it - not!
-
I use an old bath towel on wet decking.

I asked the Fat Controller about this - he said "Now I run my railway with Diesel and Electric trains I don't worry about how to feed the coal into the firebox to make steam anymore."

well an experienced trader wouldn't put holes in the decking . If the decking was running the right way you would slip them in the gaps between boardswith very little damage . If it was running the other way I carried s piece of wood to put under the spikes , and one of the few occasions to get one of the lads to foot em .

wot about when deckings wet .oops I used spikes donkys years ago. in fact ive just took some off a old pair of wooden ladders. and sold them to a pal whose been trading for years he as never seen them before .he had those round rubber thingys.he loves the spikes now. spikes are ok but when its summer over the tears you leave holes in tarmac don't look good on some ones drive

My trusty bath towel was put to good use today. The decking I used it on was like ice to walk on, but my towel under the ladder held firm. Didn't damage the decking either!
