as there is a programme on itv about productivity at work and trialing 6 hour days at some companies.are you efficient as you can be?
the window cleaner i was talking to today said he often sees me heading off home at 3pm-330pm.i said "i know thats me done for the day" :)
i dont mess around when working.high flow, chits already written out, invoices printed.30 mins for lunch and maybe a 5 min chat here and there and a quick coffee with a customer(6 or 7 hours actually on the glass).
he on the other hand often works til 5pm but he s a lot slower than me and spends quite a bit of time chatting and faffing.
do you like to stretch the day out taking your time and finishing later?or crack on and get as much as you can get done within a certain time frame?
-
Being organised and prepared the night before always helps you save time .
I never turn a coffee down , even the horrible Tea that a lady makes , God knows what milk she uses .
I chit chat a bit . But do try to work .
One tip I read on here , was knock on the door whilst your cleaning their last window near their door . So if it takes them 1-5 mins to answer at least your earning . We all have cuties that take ages to answer .

i sometimes count up how much i will make the next working day when i go to bed, :D i usually start off adding up then loose count 2 thirds through due to different pricied houses ??? and how long it should take, if i finish early i may do a few of the next days work if near by ::)roll
i like to get that round done that day. the only thing which stops me is the rain

LOL Classic!
Funny you should say this, we used to clean around 20 odd Staples stores in and around London, some were quite small that one would clean while one went in to get the money, 9 times out of 10 the person cleaning would be finished before the other would come out with the money!

Nope spend too long on here in the mornings have a habit of skipping Mondays have a tendency to daydream while
out on the job and If a mate happens to be off work on the day I clean his property then a days window cleaning can end up as a
day on front of the box watching and talking nonsense about the latest box set.
But as long as my customers and I are happy then no harm done.
Ops I forgot to mention I don't like cleaning in the rain.

I never have "lunch" at work. I don't work long enough. I would start no earlier than 10am. I would be on my way home no later than 3pm. Usually earlier. I'm 100% efficient ;D

working half arsed under half steam, skipping mondays, not working in bad weather........to me it sounds like a nightmare.personally id hate to work like that.i dont know how you make any money TBH.

Not being efficient and organised would drive me insane.
Every night I wash all scrims, prepare the next day's workload for both vans, make my packed lunch, arrange any commercial jobs so site managers know we will be on site, text any customers that need to leave access/money out (not many) and fill the van.
I'm out every morning by 7am and usually home between 3pm and 4pm. I usually eat my dinner whilst driving between jobs otherwise I'll have half hour and browse FB or this forum.
Being organised is probably the most important thing to me window cleaning wise and the difference between just ticking over and actually earning some decent money.
-
I'm so efficient I'm going to rinse two houses at the same time today.
Ruthless.

Exactly, how do you think I got into the position of being able to take a relaxed approach I have never claimed a penny in
benefits and as of yet haven't found a way to live on fresh air. ;)

I'm as efficient as a box of frogs as don't have a clue what I'm doing most of the time ;D

Your right mate at this moment in time my heart is not in it, but I had 6 very profitable and enjoyable years at it the last two not
so much.
I cant decide should I knuckle down and continue or call it a day and try something different.

I think no matter what job you do after a time it becomes very boring and repetitive.
Look at Tosh for instance as now wants to try pylon painting for a change.

Very true plus there's a buzz you get when first starting out in a new job that fades after a time, I think more so when
you actually build the job yourself from nothing.

Apart from the fact a lot of your customers will be unhappy in the fact they have an unreliable window cleaner who is hit and miss.

That's the scary part they're not or at least haven't done anything to make me think otherwise, I wonder how many of our
customers would really care if they where only getting 5 or 6 cleans a year instead of 9 to 12 with no penalties cost wise.

Should you not be working instead of being on here at this time of the day, if your not careful you could drop back below
the VAT threshold. ;D

No danger of that. I operate van 2 which isn't yet full so it means I finish early some days.
-
There no such thing as finishing early when building an empire.
-
at the minute im inefficent, but im building towards efficency in the long term
-
I'm more effervescent,
but then - I have a vision :D
-
I'm generally fairly laid back in my approach. As long as all schedule work is completed within its set week I'm happy.
Very efficient today though. Brought a load of week 1 work forward today so I can bugger off skiing for a week in the French Alps.
Nearly a record day too ;D
-
I start at 7.45......could be finished for around 3 but i have tea breaks and chats so probably head home bout 4ish but if you lived with my missus you wouldnt be in a rush either... ;D
-
I prefer to as much as possible enjoy my working day...efficiency and all that on the clock bollox I gave up when
I stopped being an employee...I set myself a monetary target each day...couldn't careless
how long it takes as long as I get there

Hi Gary, thats the absolute beauty of being self employed, you can organise your own working day,
starting time finishing time, how many jobs you want to do etc etc.
