Title: Amsterdam in May
Post by: G & M on December 25, 2015, 09:53:21 pm
The biggest cleaning exhibition in the world (as far as I know) is on in Amsterdam in May. I think I will go this year 2016 is anyone else interested. It is held every two years.

I have been quite a few times, by far the biggest and best cleaning exhibition held throughout Europe, picked up some great products over the years and its the only cleaning show i now attend and look forward to it coming every second year, would highly recommend it to anyone, check out the exhibitor list before you attend and visit the ones that are of most interest to you or else your head can be all over the place as its a huge show with hundreds of exhibitors, this will also free up more time for you to get your pole some action. :-*

Once you've had a few beers you will be able to speak Dutch as well................Double Dutch.
Is one of your suppliers Steve McLaren by any chance? He is quite fluent in Dutch ;D

Every Dutch person I've ever met speaks better English than most British under 30s.

Tadgh as you have been there a few times perhaps you might recommend a hotel near the event and maybe give a few pointers as to how to make the best use of the time at the show.

At the risk of coming over like Dazmondo, we stayed here a few years ago. http://www.pulitzeramsterdam.com/

No shortage of hotels in Amsterdam, stay anywhere as its easy to access the trams which will get you out to the RAI where the exhibition is held, as said earlier check the exhibitor list which shows all the companies exhibiting and the products they promote, this can make your visit a lot more productive as otherwise you can find it head wrecking as there is so much to see,  i always go armed with the suppliers booth number and their hall number and find this always works best, other tip is visit the suppliers on your own as they will provide you with more time and information, then get the tram back to your hotel after having a productive days work and after that what happens in Amsterdam stays in Amsterdam. :-*

Been to two shows this year and picked up no end of business tips and managed to try stuff hands on.

One tip I picked up on was a fee for turning up. It's a very clever way of pricing and will be how I price from 2016.

Each to their own.

Why's that clever?

Thats just called 'putting your prices up'. You don't have to assign it a label - my turning up fee - for it to then become a really clever way of pricing.  lol whats clever pricing anyway? Customers will swallow a particular level of cost and then once you've passed that level they'll jump ship, however you try to paint it, whatever your pricing structure is. Call it what you want but cost is cost and thats exactly how the customer will see it.

Pricing windows:

Well Mrs  Shoddy-Gaff, thank you for asking us to offer you a price for cleaning your windows on a regular basis.

The cost to clean your windows will be £44.00 per calendar month.

However as our visiting frequency for your property will be approximately 6 weekly the actual charge for cleaning your windows will be £66.00.

Lets not forget the dread Vodka and Tonic shall we - 20% of £66.00 is £13.20, therefore your total charge will be £109.20 - this includes all costs and extras we are liable for, we'll round it down to £115.00 shall we, for cash?

So, Mrs Shoddy-Gaff, I feel its important you are educated in the manner within which we have managed to offer you a price to clean your windows, a very competitive price too I might add (so long as you are a mug Mrs SG). Firstly your property consists of 8 regular sized windows, although some being leaded, we are therefore unfortunately obliged to add a supplement of £2.00 per window for these particular ones. You also happen to have a sliding set of patio doors, these also attract a premium for reasons as yet unknown to me, but we'll tack it on anyway, what! It seems the rear of your property is secured by a bolted and padlocked side-gate. We will therefore have to text you the night before to ensure we can gain access to the rear of your property, not wanting to turn up and not be able to clean the entire property you understand. The charge for this service is £5.00. Also one of your windows is above a flat-roof garage. This will require us having to remove our extending ladder from the roof of our works vehicle to be able to access this particular window, the charge for this is £10.00.

Also we charge for turning up, as you have opted for the 'leave windows in situ' level of service we offer. May I take this opportunity to remind you that if you choose to remove your windows from the house and deliver them to our yard we can offer a 10% discount. The charge for turning up is £15.00.

I trust you are satisfied with our quote and look forward to doing business with you - when I say 'business' I mean diddling you.
Would you like us to do them now? Lovely, cash would be marvellous!

Well ....... As far as Amsterdam goes and not the turning up fee to price a job ........

Anyone who hasn't been the dam really needs to go see it for themselves, it's an eye opener for sure but the red light district is pretty much in one area spread across a few canals

There's weed cafés everywhere ya look, if you stay in the centre you won't be 100 yards from one, loads to do but mainly drinking weekends for me
I stay in a hotel out of the centre been there 4 times with the wife, just jump the trams along were ever you need to go, I keep meaning to go to Ajax arena but find myself passing to many bars before I can get to central station
