Transit custom 290 1000kg payload. Good 4 wfp? Anyone got one?

Im just in the process of ordering one, I'm going for the lwb high roof model, the limited model is the one I'm getting, just waiting on a final price.
I currently have a Transit mwb high roof and the custom is slightly smaller but an ideal size if you ask me. The only issue I've got is it doesn't have as many storage areas in the cab

I'm looking at getting a LWB in the New Year, whether it be the Custom, Vivaro or Transporter I'm not sure yet. What made you decide on a Custom?

I don't think you will ever go wrong with a Ford Van, other vans for me simply aren't good enough, either to expensive or to un van like. Ive had Transits for as long as I've been water fed. You can't argue with the price of them, servicing, reliability, ease of parts and help out there for them. For me personally they're the best van on the road.
Oh and I'm not a big ford fan now, i think the cars are terrible and over priced

I need to upgrade to a 850 litre, but also need space to get our pressure washer and gutter vac as well (tank wouldn't be full up with all that in) but I need the space, I think a LWB would do the job. Am I right in saying they do a couple of different payload models?

Got an 850 in my SWB and she's deffo over loaded two man up now lol.
Had it weighed several times so either I go on diet or the van does. TBH. I can trim some poop out of the van.
Payloads are about 710(rare) up to 1550. Kg

That's right, think they start off at 250 ( which would only be able to carry empty boxes ;D) then 270,290,310 and 330. I have the 310 which has a payload of over 1200kg. I initially looked at the 290 which was gonna be tight on payload for me, I'm sure it was around £500 difference to upgrade to the 310

Depending on model the 310 can be as high at 1350kg
Mine is 1304 Payload
Mine was under limit when delivered with system. But then I added loads. Whoops.

A personal preference is to have a payload at least 500kg more than the water weight. Even if that isn't totally necessary, at least I'm not pushing the max load all the time.

dont see the point in such a big van for wfp work, just not needed imo
and the only thing Tranny vans are good at are going rusty

I did not think the new custom was cheap.

I test drove the new custom and then drove a transporter,put it this way I'm glad I drove the transporter afterwards. The VW engine has a bit more of a rattle but far better to drive lovely van.
Test drove the new T6 and so did my dad as he wants to replace his van. Both agreed T6 is a bag of poope. Imo.

I have used both vans as courtesy van both for a couple of weeks. When I saw that I was going to get a transporter to use I was really excited, but what a let down, they are a completely over hyped and over priced van, it was the 115hp version and felt underpowered to me. The custom definitely felt like it handled the weight better even though it had the same BHP, and the custom is definitely a better size can. If I had to buy one if would definitely be the custom, saying that apart from a smoother gear box and lighter steering I was happy to get back into my MK7 transit on both occasions, it's just s shame they suffer badly from rust.

650 litre with also some barrels, the 290 will serve my needs perfectly and will also have enough room inside on the floor for my other bits and bobs.
Yes they do other payloads but I've only looked at the 290 as thats what I need

How many extra barrels do you carry? I take it you have 2 men working out of the van that you need a 650 tank plus extra barrels?
The model you are looking at ( L2 high roof ) will have a payload of under 1000kg, so looks like you will be overweight.

its only occasionally i take the extra barrels, all our work is compact and local so if and when we do carry the extra then its for a very short distance. May ask about the 310 to be safe though

I've got a 290. I think payload is about 1050. It's tight with two and 750 litres but it's under as long as you just do windows and aren't carrying therefore guttervac type stuff.

... and it's a lovely van. A joy to drive. When I occasionally drive the Boxer I really appreciate the difference.

I don't carry any gutter stuff like a vac, don't rate them at all after using one a few times. Only things I carry are my trad stuff and the trolley. other than that its the normal with a 650ltr tank

The difference between 100 - 125 and 155 is the software.
Mine is now a 155 for the cost of a drink ;)

I have the 125 as well, how much did it cost to chip it? Does this negate the lack of power in 2nd and 3rd gear when using low revs? Did you have to declare this to your insurance company?...........hundred and one questions lol!

I told the insurance company its now a 155 power output and they didnt care. Had written confirmation its been declared
Warranty ?? I doubt i would have one anyway. With the amount of mods i have done. Ford have already said that any error in the electrics is not covered due to wiring mods.
Have you ever tried to claim on a warranty. Very rare its accepted lol.
