Dave Willis does it this way ( the only one I know of ) and works for him

It knackers the pumps out a lot quicker than doing it the other way round, but don't take my word for it, just keep replacing them pumps and getting frustrated. It's better the other way round after the pump.

I could not get it to work on one pump let alone two ;D

Yep, I 'pull' water through (one reel) works for me and doesn't knacker the pump - they are rated to take a pretty high temperature.
77 degrees centegrade - can't see me exceeding that somehow.
Get no pressure build up in the delicate internals of the heater. When I 'pushed' water through I blew the pressure relief valve several times when air got in the system and the pump kept building pressure. Not sure what the maximum pressure those heaters take but 100psi+ is a lot.

Will it work for two reels though ?

I have no idea, the flow would drop when two operators are running and increase with one or would it be the other way round with two pumps :-\. If it works when pushing I don't see why it would make any difference pulling. You're only moving water through a pipe after all.

I would have thought that 2 pumps after is an ideal setup - you will only need 1 heater then a tee piece after to feed each pump flow should not be an issue same as its not an issue direct from the tank when splitting the flow ( heater can handle 8lpm ) you may get a heat spike as one pump shuts down and the flow through the heater slows but this should be minimal as the thermostat should look after this quite quickly and maybe a slight drop in temp. As a second pump starts up again should only be a small lag before thermostat balances it out

As those lpg water heaters are dirt cheap I would have thought best option for on demand use would be to run one heater for each reel surely?
