Selling a window cleaning van with DIY installed tank.
Is it a good or bad idea?
I'm thinking if someone crashes and dies because of the water tank killing them, would it come back on the seller?

I don't know the answer to that one.
But I'd be more concerned about my conscience.
Years ago I met an ozzy backpacker whilst skateboarding. We became mates and I sold him a mountain board ( bit like snowboard with wheels ) to join our crew shredding some local hillsides. Shortly after mastering it and having been out a few times with us a bolt worked its way loose on one of the axels resulting in a bad crash and him breaking his back, unable to work as a landscape gardener he had to return home to Oz ahead of schedule. I felt pretty bad but at least he survived.

I would remove it just to be on the safe side if its like mine then your only talking about 4 bolts
and not a big job.

You could also include a waiver, something along the lines that this frame will stop the tank from moving whilst driving around corners, stopping and starting. It isn't designed as a crash restraint in the case of an accident.
I think that even the crash tested tanks are only certified up to 30mph. (Someone correct me please if I'm wrong.)
A head-on collision doesn't leave much margin.

Personally if it was my van, I'd unscrew/ dismantle everything and just sell the van and the equipment as a package, it's then upto the new owner to go get it fitted from whom they see fit
-
Listen to spruce there sounds about as sensible as it could get, putting a waiver in if you decide to sell as it is.
If you was to take the equipment out and sell off seperate from the van would you lose much as to selling it as one.

id take it out and sell the tank separately if your not gonna fit it in your new van.plenty of people will buy your tank if you put it on gumtree for example. ;)

The load security is the sole responsibilty of the driver of the vehicle. No one else.

i would`nt have thought you`de need to take it out of the van if it was professionally installed, surly it should be fit for purpose?
id be happy to sell complete.
waiver is a good idea

Like a tyre? Maybe everyone should have a tyre waiver too ?
