has anyone installed reverse cameras in there van, is it easy peasy,
looked on ebay and very cheap, around £25-£38
these look like you just plug into charger socket,
professional ones connected up to reverse gear
-
how much would it cost to setup professionally

plenty
They will sell you a top quality product for around £150 £200.00 + VAT and then labour to install it.
With Ebay sales ones you need to understand the difference between the cameras;
http://www.ebay.co.uk/gds/Buying-advice-for-reversing-cameras-/10000000008788088/g.html
Then do the same with the monitors

Yeah I installed mine.
The biggest problem is making sure the image is the correct way round. A lot of companies will sell the camera and screen but they won't match up. Best to buy a kit.
What I did was to buy a monitor which could have image flip and reverse. And then you can buy just any camera.
Buy a DECENT camera with the Led night light sensor thingies.
My setup cost about £70 and is perrrrrrfrct

Here's a price for a 'professional' fitted one
http://www.outdoorbits.com/professionally-fitted-waeco-perfectview-rvs-594-reversing-camera-system-p-3901.html
£980.00 including VAT

Got a system fitted on the jumbo transit - made by sonar it's a great bit of kit and also have standard reversing sensors
Darran

I also have the sensors that beep when reversing

I have too, but I only fitted the outer ones. I was afraid that the inner ones would see the towball.
I would also like to fit a reverse camera, but as with a few things, the van will probably fall to bits before I get round to it. ;D
-
Mine just came with the van,
I would advise anyone who hasn't got them an like me has to park a lot in tight spaces to defo invest in them,
When the beeping become a solid tone, you have 8"
Wouldn't be without
-
the ones on ebay are self fitting,
screen plugs into invan charger,
wires to place rear cameras in bumper id imaging. meaning cutting 2 holes in bumper i sumise
-

So I'd go flaccid, you mean?
I don't like the sound of that.
-
I normally get a scream at eight inches.

Not sure what you mean, but when you reversing about 3ft away from something it starts to beep the closer you get the quicker it beeps when you get 8" from whatever is behind you the beeping is going faster and faster until it becomes a solid tone noise rather than the beep to tell you that's just about enough.

Got a direct swap unit from china.
Revering camera, Tv, satnav, internet (needs toggle) dvd, cd. Bluetooth.
I would be lost without it. Wife goes in ASDA, I watch tv. It rains bad for half hour...TV :)

I've got two devices on my van I use when reversing.
First one is called "near side wing mirror" and the second one is "off side wing mirror". :P
-
I have fitted one in mine a couple of years back. The camera came in a kit from a local Auto jumble and the screen from Ebay.
It works well so long as you look at it when reversing. Unlike me recently when an interface between Telegraph pole and back bumper sent everything flying. :-[
-
reverse till you feel a bump then stop simples ;D

You mean like they do in France?
-
I don't have a problem reversing a van myself...It's quite simple really as you soon know when to stop when you hear and feel a bump.
-
or a little child screaming, the one you couldnt see out your mirrors. we are all carefull, there is a blind spot which you just cant see.

Do you see many hgv's on the road with reversing cameras on the back of them?
-
Most hgv 's do have them now
-
I suppose all new cars and commercial vehicles will be fitted with them as well as sonar auto collision detection and breaking system in the near distant future as standard. Not forgetting built in dash cams too.
This chap who put a hidden dash cam in his vw camper van caught a thief red handed stealing his bumper then put the scumbags pic on facebook http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-1090713/Thief-caught-red-handed-stealing-bumper-VW-van.html
Good for him as I bet that scumbag wasn't expecting that ;D

Yes they do smurf council dustcarts and tipper lorries funny enough we are often asked if we could give them a clean with the wfp brush😃

Come to think of it I've seen them on dustcarts smudger... I hope you charge well as they don't hang about :)
-
I might have a look around and see if I can get a multi cam/dash cam 12v dvr type setup.
That way could be used for extra van security too and monitor front, back and both side of the van at the same time.
The amount of rtc's/incidents recorded and uploaded to youtube etc using these things is mind blowing.

My truck is over 17ft long and having a reversing camera is a must makes such a difference instead of getting out to check .

I can't believe I'm so sad I've just gone out in the high winds and rain to measure mine too.
Maybe I need one after all or at least a tape measure long enough Mike ;D
-
they have warning noise as well when reversing to warn pedestrians behind the lorrys

I have one too...lean out of the window and shoot get out of the fooking way you idiot. ;D
That's normally after the proximity censors warn me there is something or someone behind the van
-
Smurf i thought you were ditching your van for a pick-up truck .
-
No Mike that was not me... I would not be able to carry all the kit about I use if I did.
-
Must have got you mixed up with someone else

Not to worry Mike. I use a Renault Master and to be honest it's still not really big enough.
